Best thing about fall stocking in the streams is that it coincides with all the leaves dumping off the trees, a mjor P.I.A. These fish are big and fat and have plenty of stored fat so they don't have to eat right away unlike their 12 inch counterparts. Don't fish for these stockies right away, let people throw the tackle box at them and and battle the leaves. Come the 1st week of Novenber these fish start getting hungry then it's lights out for the month of November.

Better off fishing a non stocked river or the banks of Round Valley.
All too many times I've seen people throw the tackle box at these fall stockies only to walk away empty handed, I myself are one of them. I got smart and used my log books to help me out on this one. TRUST ME ! Fishing pressure is very light this time of year, come November 1st or around there it will be time to reap the bounty. TRUST ME.

I highly recommend not fishing for trout until at least november.

Every year we get those calls: “What time will they be stocked?” Got 5 such calls, today.

We don’t know,………………it depends when they leave & on traffic.

Sometime, during the daylight hours, the water will be stocked.

One spring, an angler complained about being @ a pond the entire day, & never seeing a hatchery truck.

I clued him in on a secret: NJ Hatchery Stealth Trucks. You may think it is a UPS, Propane, or Fed Ex truck taking a break, parked near the water. Actually, one of ours,…………

Any one get any today?? lol.

Heading over to the diner tonight I counted 5 cars on the Eastbound side and 2 on the Westbound side on Route 22 at the Milltown intersection on the North Branch just as it was getting dark. I totally forgot today was the day until I saw the parked cars.

I never catch freshly stocked fish, even in the spring. I couldn't catch a sabrett's if they threw them in fresh either. Always do better once they (the trout or hotdogs) are "seasoned" a bit :D

Those "dirty water dogs" (sabretts) catch me everytime I see that umbrella :D
