Have never fished for salmon before and want to give it a try. Can any point me in the right direction as far as tackle....rods, line, reel size, hook size. Used the search feature and didn't come up with much. Also tried google and only come up with tackle shops and guides. Trying to use stuff that I have ie.. surf rods, but will grab a salmon/steelhead rod if I have to. Trying to head up this weekend, but depends on work schedule. Thanks, Mike

Remember also no lead, zinc only, wade staff, polarized, heavy duty line stringer,I would buy the 9' rod up there- I like the pineville shop, and jetty spikes are a must, And a good long handled net...

if you dont wanna spend a ton of money just use one of ur lighter surf rods, preferably a med/light u need a fast or sensitive tips to feel the bottom and feel the fish. Just respool it w 10-12# line (i like floro) and ur set. Use korkers and be safe, the above extras make life nice in the water......

Selkirk state campground ... That's an easy way and they have firewood there
Or the old fashioned way sleep in your truck when need be - at your hole of choice- I like the sportsmans, catch your catch, go to pineville have it iced and go for round 2,3,4, then come home with lots of mediocre flavor salmon, but the fight is great!

I've stayed at the Fish On Motel. Look it up on google. Its at the town hole and there is a tavern across the street. The Salmon River Sports Shop is just down the street from the motel. Too bad you missed the Log Cabin. The food was so awesome. I'm sure the Salmon River vets can tell you about the Log Cabin buffet. Oh goodness was that good.
Give the Fish On Motel a try. Mike is a good guy.
Take care and let us know how you do.
Be good!

One thing they don't have in Salmon Country is a STRIP CLUB!!! Why the hell don't they have one with all the people that flood into the area to fish? Does anybody want to open up a Gentlemans club???

Salmon fishing with fly rod try 9-10' 8wt rod w/12lb leader & 3x (8#)tippit. For steelhead you can drop down a line size or two. Try Egg, leech, comet & estez fly patterns in sizes 8-16.
For lodging try http://http://www.tinkertavernlodge.com/. They have private comfortable cabins with BBQ's and fire-ring.
