This is part 2 of our "Swagger" series of rods. The last post showed 6 -50 class rods. Below is a pair of dredge rods that feature 80 class Calstar blanks [modified], # 4 Aftco storabutts, wo47/22 guides, Aftco 627 swivel roller top.
Top portion 38" as per owners request. Top portion lengths vary. It could be related to where a particular rod holder is on a boat. Most top halves measure between 36"-42" . We have built them longer, as long as 48" and the longer length could double as a deep drop Swordfish rod.
There are China look alike swivel tops, I wouldnt recommend even trying one.
Note the use of the "storabutt" allows for take apart above and below the reel seat, also note that the seats can be positioned with fixed hood fore or aft, allowing for slight adjustment to reel location.

Wow very pretty rods .... What reel would you pair up with those rods? Would you recommend them for natural baits ??? I may have to get myself a pair of them .. I just cant seem to find a reel that will handle the weight of a dredge with mullets on it !!! Will the guides accept #700 - #1000 mono ?

Rich, most guys use an 80w. I'm not sure you can get the drag pressure that you need from anything smaller, but I would think a 50 might do the job. There always seems to be a lot of 80lb reels for sale on craigs list, ebay etc. I do have a wholesale private label program on these and other rods.
these roids sell for $520 per unit, but there are ways of getting it down to under $400.
Let me know.
