can we please have more than 50? like maybe 500 or a thousand? every time i go to send one, i have to delete a few to make room for the outgoing message and any reply.
they are not very large from a storage or bandwidth perspective. usually just a few dozen characters. what is the reason for the low number?

i guess i'd toss in a couple bucks per year if you want to charge members for more PM storage

Sorry but I have to manage with 50 too and can't change this selectively.

When sending a message uncheck the box that stores a copy in your sent items. This will give you a few more to send and store.
I don't save pm's... unless they contain specific info. like address's and ph. #'s

I never really understood the ramifications of giving everyone 100 per account. I go on message boards that make this one look miniscule, and believe me this is a big board, and they give up to a 1,000. I'm not on here as much as I used to be, but when I was very active and fishing almost every weekend (a pipe dream at this point) I definitely found the 50 overly restrictive.
And isn't there in a way in the VBulletin to make user profiles? Something between Mod and User, some boards call it Super User, and after say 1,000 posts you get placed in that category and more posting/sending privileges open up. I Know PHPBB let's you do that, I'm not sure about VBulletin.

Now that info is just what a hacker would want

vbulletin gives you quite a bit of flexibility to customize, and pm numbers can be set from 0 to unlimited.

indeed. gerry, why don't you up the limit for everyone? the 50 we're currently allowed is incredibly restrictive.
the PMs take up next to no room in your database compared to the thousands of new posts on the message boards every week and all the image attachments... and you aren't limiting the number of new threads allowed or deleting the old ones... like we have to do with private messages...
c'mon man, 50 is an insanely limited number, especially for a fishing message board, where you often pass info back and forth that you don't want to post in the open for everyone to see
