The NJ state record bluegill was 3 pounds and caught in a farm pond in Pennington in 1990.

I think that's what they look like. Have caught lots of monsters down south in TN, GA, NC and a few pigs her in NJ, but not as big as pictured.

Judging by the guy's hat, it was likely a project by South Dakota State University:

They were likely bred in a controlled environment with zero predation. That's the only way I can think of that they could get so large.
