Maddhatterr and I hit the lake around 6:45, on the hook in 50 FOW by 7am. We had 10 dozen herring in the boat. PLENTY of run offs, PLENTY of lake trout. I think we had at least 10 lakers only keeping our limit. We got 1 broodstock brown, or should I say 1/2 each ! I reeled it in, fish had my line and Hatters, maybe a 4 or 5lbr. ! It's always funny when I slap down a pack of #8 hooks (Mustad 3906) and say, well, that's all the tackle we'll need for today. We missed about a dozen run-offs, swing and a miss (small fish ?)
Weather held off till the end when we got a few rain drops, left 'em feeding
Had plenty of BIG blow ups around the boat but couldn't cash in. Hatterr broke his laker cherry and said "hey, these fish do fight like beach towels"
Stopped by the F&G office and saw Mark B. Just wanted to let him look at 24" lake trout with NO fin clips at all (that means natural reproduction) Good to see Mark B., always rolls out the welcome mat !
I got some video from today but I need to download some circus music first before I publish it, when you see the video you will know why :D

At least you can dry yourself off with a beach towel:D
Lots of $$$$ to catch lakers...no?

If I was worried about the money ........... well.

I thought I saw some blood on the fish, maybe it was the net. I had a new net in my hands the other night, the heavy rubber, good for C&R. The only problem was everything is collapsible and expandable. I just want a solid handle and a solid net ring, is that too much too ask. Well, he finally swam away on his own, the broodstock (look at the tail) aren't as hearty as the ones that have been in there a while. Both hooks were in the top jaw.

I do bark out alot of orders, I wonder why people still want to fish with me  And yes Wilson, I do make refrence to you wanting to load your lines with split shot when we get out there, my way or the highway.......

I'll see what other crazy fire drill lake trout footage I can find :D

I've also never caught a laker. Gotta say, other than the prospect of a 10+ pounder, the description of catching one brings it way down on the "to do" list.

Yeah...goes with the territory! If my wife had problems with this, as you know buying the gear and bait and the anticipation is almost 1/3 the fun, would have to consider divorce:eek:

Luckily for me the wife would rather me be out there than causing problems around the house thinking about being out there!

What do you mean by both hooks? Funny you didn't need to buy any equipment, you probably can't afford to at the money you spend on bait. It's crazy, I fished bait for 35 years never have I seen a set-up like yours. Would love an invitation on your yacht, theres lots to learn,Fishoff.

You have to have a thick skin to fish with Andy. He thinks he's an Admiral:rolleyes:
I'm just a swabby and know it.
Some classic quotes....

"We got $90.00 worth of bait here and you are throwing lures?"

"Your soaking worms while I throw surf plugs"

"If you weight the Herring you'll just catch Lake Trout".

"Jigs are the way to go"

"Those spinners your using are too small"

I fish for fun and relaxation.

It's all good.... I think:rolleyes:

So Andy doesn't weight the bait? What does he do when the thermocline sets up? Lakers are easier to catch especially when it gets warm, but tell me why 90.00 dollars in bait? It makes no sense, trout will prefer an off bait many times, we clip fins and use scents when things are slow. We catch them (browns) and smallies on dead bait. Rod holdes, bait runner reels, strike guards, aerators??? The systems as they appear are confusing.

Who said 90 bux worth of bait, more like 70, split down the middle, 35 each, not bad. Strike gaurds, why, I'm not drifting. Bait is fresh, no aerators needed. Bait runners ???........open bail works for me. Rod holders get in the way, I keep the rod tips low, they pick up less wind that way. When the thermocline sets up I go bass fishing or crabbing or sit on the beach and watch the bikinis ! This is the way I roll, I like it, it works for me. Just got to get through the lake trout to find the browns and rainbows.

andy, this was the setup you were running when your wife got that state record brown trout, no?

AndyS
05-24-2012, 09:50 PM
Why yes it is !! This method had taken a state record brown trout from RV, and 11 lb. brown trout from MC, along with countless numbers of 5 and 6 lb. brown trout from MC, not to mention the dozens of lake trout, rainbow trout and smallmouth !!!
