View Full Version : GAMBLER Benifit Trip for Elena
captbogan

The Gambler crew is looking to help a family that has been struggling under the weight of medical bills for the last 20+ years. At the age of 4, Elena Jenkins was diagnosed and treated for leukemia and brian tumors. This family needs a little break.
I thought that we could raise money and at the same time have a good, fun fishing trip.
The trip will set sail on Sunday, Feb 12th (Rain date, Feb 19th) Leaving at 4AM and returning by 4PM, the fare will be $100 per person. Lunch (donated by friends of the Jenkins') will be included with the price. We will be targeting cod, ling and pollock. The trip will be limited to 40 passangers or less.
I have invited Elena's father, Bob and Brother Rob (Panga Rob and local Shimano rep) to join us.
This will be a good trip for a worthy cause.
If you have an idea to raise more money during the trip, please post it here.
Sign up by using a credit card to hold your spot. Call 732-295-7569. If you don't get an answer, just leave your name and number and someone will call you back.

To Capt. Bob and the Gambler Crew,
The Family would like to express our warmest, deepest gratitude for this gesture. Dad has been talking about this trip incessantly since it was first proposed.
Ladies and Gents-
Join us for a day of fishing with a truly World Class Party Boat.

I have been friends with the Jenkins family for 5 years and will attest to the fact that the financial and emotional toll Elena’s medical problems have taken on her and her entire family are unimaginable to those of us who lead relatively normal and healthy lives.
Bobby’s generosity to offer up the Gambler for this event is a great way for all of us to do something we love to do while helping a family that really could use a little boost.
Hope to see you there.
Below is a picture of a nice cod (1 of 10 that day) that Rob put me on a couple weeks ago while fishing aboard his panga a few miles out of Shark River. Hopefully, the cod gods will shine on us again Feb. 12.

Capt Bob - since Capt Marc is offering to donate a trip and you have the certificates donated by Toghead, maybe you can do a raffle and open it up to people that can't make the trip.
Could be set up like a Tricky Tray. Lay out all the prizes and people purchase tickets and put them at the prizes they want.

You obviously subscribe to the later category and as such you are a phila...er, phila...er, er.....Good Deed Doer and a man with a very big heart! It's great to see someone take the time and put forth the effort to do what you're doing here. A beautiful deed indeed! I'm not sure if you still have openings on the trip. If so, could you pm me and let me know. If not, like others have asked, please let me know where I can send a donation to help out the family you're doing this for. A post as to when the call will be made by would be helpful so people can make alternate plans if the trip ends up being cancelled. Based on the offshore forecast right now, it doesn't look good especially with wind chill factored in. I'd rather just donate the money for a very worthy cause then see everyone have to endure a not so enjoyable trip. Save the cost of bait and gas and give more to the Elena family! It will give all of us good Karma for future off shore excursions!

Boat left at 0 dark thirty and arrived at the first drop right around first light. Lots of Bergal life and some lingy's at this drop. 2 ling for me and a keeper bergal. Headed to the next drop and the seas were a a little sporty. Capt. had to back down a few times to get us through the roll. Next drop slow of life but a pick here and there. 2 more lingy's for me. I'm not gonna give blow by blow after that because it was just a slow pick to all out Dog Fest the rest of the day. Actually if it weren't for all the Doggies I might not have enjoyed the outstanding food that was there. The cheese steaks were freakin awesome and the hotdogs and chili a great compliment.
Thanks to everyone that made this possible, it was lots of fun. I know our crew of 8 had a very good time as my buddy Willie hit the pool with a nice cod at the drop whistle.
Best of luck to the Jenkin's family you definitely deserve it.

Folks,
I’m not quite sure where to begin. Uncle Sam prepared me for allot of things, but this really wasn’t one of the lessons they passed along in the skill set. On behalf of the Jenkins Family, I would like to thank everyone for their generosity, their time and their patience. Our thanks go out to all the folks who joined us for the trip as well as those “behind the scenes folks”.
First, a thanks to Captain Bob and the Bogan Clan (Mary Ann, Lee Ann, Andrew and Andrew Jr.) for dreaming this trip up, coordinating logistics and bringing it to fruition.
Also, a big thanks to the Gambler Crew, (Greg, Morgan, Kevin and Ross) for dealing with the Muppets, Horned Pollack and Ravens that made up a good part of our by-catch, all the while showing us a good time. Also thanks to Ryan W. who is out at school yet passed along a donation.
I would be remiss if I did not send a special “thank you” to our Mess Cook, Tom, who stepped up to the plate when our volunteer chefs succumbed to the motion of the ocean. Thank you for sweating it out over the dogs and cheese steaks. They were on par with any we have had on land, anywhere.
Mom, the chili was a hit, both slathered on dogs and solo.
We also need to thank:
Kevin Bogan of Kevin’s Custom Rods
Marc Bennett, AKA “Quanman “ and his Crew
“Italian Fisherman”
Ray Neglia
Ray Conte
Gregg Smith AKA “mahigold”of Rella’s Italian Tavern
Marc Hyrcak of Reel Action Charters
Rich and Michelle Kostyu of MR Charters

Despite the fish choosing not to cooperate and the wind and seas kicking up just a bit around 9AM, this may have been one of the most enjoyable fishing trips I have had the pleasure of being part of. Thanks again to one and all. Fair winds and following seas.
Forever grateful,
Panga Rob

Thank you again to everyone who joined us on this trip. Were not too many cod caught but I hope all had a decent time. And thanks to anyone who contributed in any way. Shirts were great, food was great, gifts and contributions were more than I had hoped for.
Our prayers continue with Elena and her mom, dad and brother.

Panga Bob and Captain Bob. Glad this trip worked out and that we could use the site to promote it.
Warms my heart to see the outpouring of support here as I'm sure it does yours.
All the best to Elena and family and our continued prayers.
