I caught a 13 lber on my last cast for the day last night at 5:30 PM in the Millstone River on my homemade corn meal bait. Water was 50 degrees. I also caught a 15" white catfish and lost 2 other catfish. A few fish swirled. I didn't get a hit on a jig.

Even if I planned on it being my last, I find that I cannot resist trying one more cast after I catch a fish.

There was a night bite yesterday. I used up all of my homemade corn meal bait by 6:55 PM. Caught 3 white catfish, 13.5 lb and 7 lb carp, a brown bullhead, golden shiner and white perch in the 51 degree Millstone River. It was a warm night with no wind. A coot swam across the river and a beaver was nearby. Fish were swirling.

I hit Milton Lake in Rahway yesterday. After I found some real estate with no #$%&ing geese or ducks, I threw out a can of creamed corn and let it sit while I put some new line on my reel. First cast with the kernel and had a runner in seconds, went to set the hook and saw a huge wake as a carp swam away. Not sure if he took my bait or just swam into the line, but the way it pushed water it was a decent fish. Second cast had another pick-up in seconds but it didn't connect. That was all the action. Saw lots of bubbles from feeding carp but most were outside casting range. It was like the same crap in the Spring where I could see them feeding but they just didn't want to travel too far or eat corn. Lots of smaller fish swirling on the surface. By nightfall it seemed dead though, all the action I had and saw was between 2 and 4pm. Oh well, putting the carp rods away for reals now. I need some frickin ICE before MLK day. The heck with this 70 degree stuff.
