Fished the Raritan upstream from the Mainstreet bridge in North Branch for about 3 1/2 hours. Not a single bite. Waded up river almost to Snearowski Farm and back. Hit every hole and snag I found with grubs, 3" senko's, inline spinners, even a small crankbait. I'm very new to the river/stream fishing thing so I figured I was just doing everything wrong for the time and place. Nice day out at least.

Saw about 5 other guys throughout that time and didn't see or hear of anyone catcing anything. Anyone else out there have any luck?

Funny, we fished the NB on Sunday and caught loads of fish including pike, smallmouth and bluegills. Lots of fish in some holes. We fished one hole that yielded at least 25 fish. We were much further upriver than you and used fly rods. No trout but small to decent size fish were plentiful. Don't give up on the NB!

I have long been of the opinion that whenever you fish a new spot, for a new kind of fish, or with a new method, you will get skunked the first time. Then next time you will catch fish. Whether you attribute this to luck, skill or whatever, it seems to always be the case. So just go back again and you should be all set!
