HI guys & ladies.
Did I miss the GAMBLER report from the two day canyon trip.
OR do I have the days mixed up.
I thought it was Wed. & Thurs.
They suppose to be back today. I'm trying to get in touch with a buddy of mine who was on the trip myself.

They had a great trip. Picked up some longfin and yellowfin from Brian C, thanks again. I heard that they had approximately 100 longfin and yellowfin with some mahi and tiles and one keeper sword and one jumbo sword lost. I'm sure someone else with full details will post soom.

There were tuna racks all over the place. The back deck looked like a school of tuna swam through a minefield.
Good for them, they have planned this trip for a long time now, I'm glad they killed them. Can't wait to see pictures!!

Didn't see any tuna over 60lbs and the caught sword was around 75. Boys were still busy with the fish over 20 mins after docking. I carried mine of to process them at Belmar. Wish I had brought a knife a bit bigger than my 7" fillet knife..*LOL* It worked but it took 35 mins to process 2 30lb tuna which is piss poor in my book. Then again, i don't think I've cut a tuna in 4 or 5 years.

A quick report on the trip...
First a very special thanks to Charlie Tuna and Bob for getting it off the ground and making it a go...looking forward to next years trip...:)
BC, many thanks for your generous dinner donation:)excellent steaks!!!
To the Gambler crew, excellent as always...fun, expert and professional and to Capt. Bob for taking us to the magic spot on the first night and drifting and on the second night anchoring on the Hudson's East Wall right on the "X".
To everyone on the trip--couldn't have been a more considerate and knowleable bunch of anglers...lots of fun...got to match faces with NJF handles...
Think the final tuna count was 84 yft & lft with a 1 to 2 ratio with several tiles and mahi(went pothopping) with some coming through the slick at night...
lots of life, couple blue sharks, dolphin around the boat most of the time and squid in clear blue 70-73 degree water...
Sorry guys, no pix...
Shoulders, back and arms very sore with loins to deal with and much needed sleep needed
Everyone walked off the boat with at least two fish...
most tuna caught on bait..
need sleep, good night...

I was also on that trip and can ditto what Pennsy Guy posted. It was great fishing with a bunch of great guys.Everyone worked together as a team.
At some points fishing was insane with everyone hooked up at once.I was really surprised on with how little tangles we had.
My special thanks to Charlie Tuna and Capt Bob for makeing this trip happen and to the mates for their excellent deck hand experience.
Pennsy Guy was high hook with 11 tuna.I dont think I saw him leave the rail.( That man can fish).
I would also like to thank BCinerie for his generousity. The steaks were great.
Pennsy Guy and myself are going on tonights trip will post later.

As a whole the boat did not jig that much.....i think only a few Tuna were hooked on jigs....Gamblerkeith hooked into one about 3AM Friday morning on a jig that was nice size! Fought the fish for 15-20 minutes with the help of his dad, Tom.
I did try for a little,,,hooked up but the fish was lost after a few minutes.

Well, I'm starting to feel like myself again after lack of sleep. All I can say is what a first Tuna Trip for me. I ended up with 4 longfin tuna and lots of Mahi-Mahi while pot hopping. I lost a bunch of tuna too, but that's party boat tuna fishing for ya! I had one good size sword on, took a look at him then he sliced through the line. Also hooked up with a short sword and let him loose. The fish is all in the freezer and given to friends and family. (I invested in Food Saver today and boy was it worth it!)
Special thanks to all the guys who helped me out with info about Tuna fishing: Muldune, JDshots, BCinerie and CharlieTuna to name a few. With all your info on tackle, equipment, and technique I was able to land my first tuna.
The Gambler crew was outstanding. I have to admit the Bow your head and Prayer by the Captain before the trip made me a little nervous, but i guess it worked! There were 5 mates on the trip and boy did they work hard. They had a rotating schedule for sleep and while on the deck they worked there butts off and were very helpful with their advice. They also did a great job tagging all the tuna and making sure everyone got exactly what they caught. The Mahi was mostly split evenly by all customers. Special thanks to Keith for helping me and my brother out throughout the trip.
As for a report, i think the other guys nailed it pretty good. The tuna at times were coming in like Bluefish. The anglers worked the rail over and under and we had as little tangles as possible. Everyone was very professional and considerate of others.
Tom worked the galley and it was a pleasure to hang out with him. He also caught his first ever tuna (see picture) Congrats Tom. We ran a tab and paid at the end...everything was delicious.
Overall, this trip was a blast....I am in for next year! I will see the Gambler crew for some Cod this winter!

All I can say is , 10 tuna, 1 keeper sword, 8 mahi and 1 tile!!!! Holy crap that is a great trip. Funny thing is I brought a swordfish rod with 200lb leader etc and what do I catch my first sword on??, a 50lb flouro leader and a 6/0 owner hook on a med weight rod who woulda thunk it!!! Nice trip great crew and a great yes great bunch of anglers. i caught 8 of the tuna on the bait and jigged 2 fish and probably could have jigged 10 more but I was wiped out !!! We hooked and caught 12 tuna in 30 minutes with no fish lost , I call that team work at its finest!!!! till next year, I am in , lets set the date asap!!! the 2 day format worked great.

Way to go here guys.... With the build up this trip had I was hoping it lived up to everyone's expectations and glad to see it did.
Great job putting this together Charlie. I know there is a lot of effort and planning that goes into a pulling off a trip like this and it sounds like your efforts paid off.
