Hit Pompton lake on Sunday from my buddies canoe equipped with a decent trolling motor. All in all, had a decent day.

Got on the water around 730am and fished until about 4pm. Ended up with a mixed bag of 5 Largemouths, 3 nice Yellow Perch and a Pickerel. Had 2 nice sized Pike saw me off while using a texas rigged Baby Craw. After I put a steel leader on, the fishing slowed and we got off the lake. Both Pike were probably around the 30" mark and would have been the first Pike I've landed on Pompton.

Overall it was good to see the fish biting. All the rain really threw a wrench into my fishing, but yesterday got me back on track.

Have there always been pike in that lake? Curious if any made it up there during the flood of doom...

Yes, the state stocks Northerns in there. The state record Pike came out of there a few years ago. All the ones I've hooked up with have been while bass fishing (no leader) and every time I've targeted them (spinnerbaits, leaders, etc.), I haven't caught one, so I don't know lol.

Nice job Skunk. I've always done well up there ice fishing, but have never gotten a pike from Pompton. I've gotten them from Budd through the ice though.

DBoyd, they've been stocking that lake with pike for a long time. The state record (reportedly) came out of there. Pompton Lake, Pompton River and the Passaic that it joins up with all get their own allotment of northerns every year and all are more of the heavily stocked waters in NJ.

They're in there.

Nice job, I always wanted to hit Pompton. Was hoping I could cross pike off my list their and I guess If I use a Senko with heavy line I will:D .
