So I was working a deal with a friend for that 2007 Yamaha f250 for FISH STIX this past week. Had everything figured out with Gateway Marina(where the motor was being stored) and the owner of the motor.
So I told Gateway, I'm not having them install it for the most ridiculous price of $3,500.00(just for rigging!!) and they agreed I can come and pick it up.
I stripped my ENTIRE boat of all 2 stroke everything. And I get a call from the owner that the marina sold the motor behind our backs to a guy that was gonna have Gateway do the install, so those SOB'S can get that wacky install price.
I completely just got screwed. Stripped my boat. Have no leads on another reasonable motor. And no, I don't wanna dump $25,000 in a new engine, we are looking to upgrade to a larger boat soon. Looks like our season has come to an end. Gateway Marina really has some nerve to do what they did to me. The most unprofessional thing I've ever heard of. (I wont say what I really wanna say.....)
Hopefully something will come up soon.

Was a deposit left?
there was no need for a deposit, I was buying it from a friend. And Gateway KNEW I was coming for it. Gateway wasnt taking my money in the first place, the owner of the motor was!

People who screw people over for the fastest buck think they win. Alot of guy's read this board so in the long run they may lose alot more then they made with this move. I know thats not much help to you. Good luck with your search

Definately SUCKS - Karma is a bitch and what goes around comes around - I personally believe that everyting happens for a reason - you will find a better engine and a better deal - might not be tomorrow but It will happen - now that the boat is stripped maybe you cna check other things out and do other repairs/maintenance- keep your head up and your ears to the grind-stone and positive projection - You will find a better deal
Gdubya- - Keep your head up and good things will come

Been there for yamaha outboard filters, oil and plugs but $100 sale seemed to be an inconvienence for them so I go elsewhere now.

not sure if it helps, but boat trader.com has a outboard section, my dad and uncle just picked up 2 engines a 150 merc and a 250 etec for pretty good prices, and they were fairly close. couldnt hurt to try

I'm missing something (as most know...:p )
If your buddy OWNS the engine, how did Gateway sell HIS O/B without his OK? Kinda like me selling my neighbors car w/o telling him I'm selling it.
Unless he (your bud) and the marina had a contract to sell his engine for him?
If thats the case, and dont get me wrong, its a total douche move, but ya cant fault the place for pocketing 3.5K in profit.

He did have an agreement w/ Gateway, that they can sell it. But, my friend and I both called and said we had a deal and that I was stripping my boat and coming to get the motor. Gateway said OKAY see you soon. Then they sold it on me. *******!

Agreement or contract?
If it was just an agreement, and that was my engine, I'd physically go and take it back.
Either way, sux ballz having to go through it. This economy has many looking for every buck they can make, no matter who ya screw over to get it.
