My 2nd try at floating the Raritan. Started out by Nevius St, didn't park where I could get a ticket, and shoved off just past 6am.
I threw lures the entire 8 hour trip, never stopping. For the most part I used a swimming plug about 6" long, black and silver, on the other rod I had a small Rapala, perch color, and the other rod I switched between jigs and tubes.
My first hit was near Somerville, something wacked the large swimmer right next to the canoe, it wasn't very big, it looked like a small pick.
2nd hit was a channel cat that nailed my plug in Manville.
I got 2 dink smallmouths below South Bound Brook and took out at 2pm at the 2nd 287 crossing at the park there.
8 hours of non-stop throwing = 3 fish. Dunno if it's me or the river doesn't really hold that many game fish ??

That river gets tough midday. Try floating/wading a shorter stretch in the hour or two after sunrise or before sunset. The smallies especially are a lot more active in low light. Call me, we'll get together this month and I can show you some good spots to wade on that section of river.
