Couldn't fish the streams so I decided to try a lake. Guess what? It was a mudhole too. With the state stocking it and a club that put five hundred trout in it Saturday, I decided to stay and give it a try. No trout. Caught three mudcats and a ten inch largemouth on buttterworms. My magic spinner wasn't so magic with the discoloration of the water. Personally, I'd rather be standing in a moving stream and working my mojo. That shoreline pond fishing doesn't cut it. It's boring.

Exactly...I'd rather be at some beautiful river catching nothing than at Echo Lake catching stockies. Between the people and cruddy water, it's not much fun.

I was the only soul out at RVR on Saturday morning and conditions were just awful. I've never encountered wind like that outside a hurricane and with the chop on the lake there was a ring of brown water that went out 5 feet from shore. I lasted an hour before packing it in.

Stopped at the North Branch on the way home to see if it were worth grabbing my waders and coming back and spoke with 2 guys who were leaving who said they managed 1 fish in an hour and that the water was really cold.

Hopefully next weekend the weather will be much better. I do like lake fishing, RVR with it's clear water would rival the clearest stream for sight-fishing.
