Remember, you are casting the line, not the fly, that is the way it was told to me.
I only went as far as poppers for bass in my fly career. I would go to the North Branch in the middle of the summer with shorts and sneakers and cast poppers with the fly rod. It's a total blast when smallmouth, rock bass and bluegill crush a popper on the surface, and with the fly rod everything felt like it was huge.
Maybe as a beginner you might want to give it a try, streamers are easy also, get out in the fast water and try your best.
Keep at it and let us know how your progress is coming along.

I gave him alot of advice when I gave Chris the setup and number one was start popping for panfish and bass...that's how I got into it and it's deffinetly the easiest way to start...

just remember to let your line get straight behind you before you start your foward cast, you'll crack your fly off, get knots in the leader, commonly called buggy whipping, learn the roll cast, very helpful when trees and brush behind you. also try a chernobyl ant great for panfish and floats like a cork, keep at it you'll be addicted before you relize it, next you'll be tying, thats where the REAL addiction comes in lol :D
