The removal of the old Gruendyke Dam by Route 46 in Hackettstown is old news but the amount of silt that it released downstream was very noticeable last season especially. There was no notice of any silting in any of the stretches that I fished yesterday even well downstream. Areas that had been silted have recovered nicely just as predicted. The limestone rocks were visible again and I'm sure the insect life will resume soon too.
This can truly be a magnificent trout stream once the obstructive dams closer to the Delaware are removed. We'll be looking at a shad run in the Musky in the future?
