Met up with Doug Vitale for some after work trout. He showed me one of his spots on the upper reaches of the river. A nesting goose was sitting on eggs in the exact spot where we wanted to fish. Tried to push her off the nest, but she wasn't having any of it.
A little bit downstream we caught a few fallfish, and started working our way back upstream to the parking lot. We didn't have any more action until we were about 2/3 of the way back, when I finally hooked up with a trout that fell for the white Mr. Twister. I caught two more from the hole, and Doug caught one trout and a big sucker on meal worms.
A bit after sunset the fish started jumping, but they weren't biting. We fished until we could barely see the stream, but didn't score any more trout. Not great, but as far as the Manasquan is concerned, I'll take it.
It was good to meet Doug, especially since he's a Monmouth County guy like me. Hopefully we can trade some more spots before the season is over. :D
