Typing in the lobby of Hampton Inn in Corning NY !!

Fished the no kill stretch in Deposit all morning, nada, went to the East Branch in Hancock for a bit, nada. Went back to Deposit in the afternoon, my buddy got a beautiful 18" brown, and I got, get this, an 18" landlocked salmon.
My big bulky camera was back in the car, I kinda pride myself in being able to identify just about anything that swims in freshwater. My buddies brown, deep brown and a very yellow under belly, nice spots. So I hook up and see it roll, I'm thinking a nice rainbow, get it up on the bank, all silver, dark spots along the top, forked tail.......mmmmmm. Could it be ? I will be researching this further.
May go back again on Friday on the way home. Water is very, very high, a bit off but not too bad. Other rivers up here are very muddy and very high, still snow on a lot of the mountains and hit a lot of snow coming through Binghamton. It's winter up here.

Don't you wish you had the camera? I would have loved to see the fish. Of course it is possible Andy. There are more than a couple of ways that species that are not supposed to be in a particular watershed can get there.

Good early season trout fishing expedition! Probably a better than normal shot at a lunker this time of year.

Did it look like this?
I caught a few on the Schroon River in NY state.
I thought they would fight better then they did:mad:

That is what it looked like, a few less spots, other than that, a match.

Well I guess I caught my first landlocked salmon ;)

I did some poking around on the interwebs. Apparently, stocking salmon in the Delaware is not a new idea:

http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=FA0614FE3B5911738DDDAB0894DE405B8585F0D3

Then I came across this very interesting article:

http://articles.mcall.com/1988-07-24/sports/2654621_1_steelhead-smolts-delaware-river

Not only does it outline a plan to stock the Delaware with chinooks and steelhead, but it also states that the same program had already been implemented on the Raritan River in 1987-1988!

This link is for a logbook summary of reported catches in the Delaware in 2005-2006:

http://www.fish.state.pa.us/images/fisheries/afm/2008/5x07_15delaware.htm

It makes no mention of salmon, but it does report several of "trout species" of an otherwise unidentified nature. Hmmmmm...
