anyone ever fish the reservoir in Bridgewater near the Chimney Rock Inn.. I have had some luck catching some nice size LM bass during the summer but only gave it one or two shots... it gets choked up with weeds pretty quick but just wondering what else is in it- especially since it gets quite deep near the old water tower and spillway
There's fish there. But it's a little lame compared to other waters. My mom lives three house away. Never had a banner day there. Planning to put a boat on it in May. We will have a long carry to the waters edge. But I want to put a depth finder on it. There were a number of post a few months ago about this particular lake.

yeah i read that post when it was iced over and the game wardens weren't allowing people to fish on the hard water... never caught anything to brag about there either but the place looks like it should hold some nice fish... i run the trails every now and then and see only a few people fishing- beautiful area for that section of NJ- shame it is not stocked with much

I don't think it's stocked at all, In the F&W magazine I have with stocking info it's not listed for anything. The vegetation issue during the summer there might be it's saving grace to try and keep some fish in there.
I have had fun fishing there though, I've caught a lot of nice sized crappie while targeting LMB and I even managed to pull a nice 3 pound LMB out of the slop early last summer.
The summer vegetation makes fishing from shore tricky, I picked up some sliderhead jigs for this year with that lake in mind to give them a try. Spots from shore are pretty limited from what I've seen, the trees, shrubs and thornbushes limit the spots to cast with lures.
It's not my first choice to fish, I live on the Western portion of Bridgewater myself so time-wise I'm right in between there and RVR and RVR almost always wins out.

I also live in Bridgewater (Stony Brook Drive off of Country Club Rd) and fish there several times a year. The best luck I have had was in the feeder creek on the opposite side from the parking lot and not the main body of water. Early spring (although not this one yet - freezing for cryin out loud) is the best time I've had. You can get through the growth because it's not grown in yet so the access is better. Bass are usually in the 1 to 2 lb range but I have caught a few in the 3 to 4 class. It should hold a good number of fish but it gets tough in the summer from what I have found. Plastics and top water frogs have worked well in the slop once the weeds grow in and weather gets hot. Only a few per outing but at least those off the top are fun. Never got out on it with a boat though.
Good luck if you try it out.

Thanks for the warning:eek:

Lot's of easily accessible fishing from Bridgewater, I kick myself for it taking 6 years of me being there to figure it out.
I'm over where 22 meets Milltown Road which is right where the North Branch dissects 22.
I don't have any body of water figured out, I'm just persistent at trying!

I've been fishing that little body of water since I was a kid (also hunted the area before Somerset county took it over). Yes, there are small large mouth bass in there as well as sunfish, eel, suckers, bullheads, and since Middle Brook is stocked with trout upstream you may find an errant trout or two on occasion. I've also seen trout below the dam in the faster water at times.
