Might, if I do it will be to a wild trout stream, with few others around, that stocked stuff openning day is not for me.
If good striper reports though might be doing that instead.

I'll be there hell or high water. Tradition I guess. The best day is Sunday. Get out very early not as many fishermen and still a lot of fish available. :)

Since I was a kid, opening day has always been the "official" start of fishing season for my family. I've had some really amazing ones and some very forgettable ones, but in the end it's always been worth it to fish with family and friends for a day. I'll be on the water without fail.

only missed opening day once since I was kid. Tradition that I will keep going once I have a children. Rain, snow, s*&t, hell, or high water..I'm out there! As previously stated, it's funny to watch some of the characters out there! If the fishing is slow, at least there's entertainment!
Still have decided where I'm going yet this year. I like to try to hit different locals every year

I was thinking more along the lines of shoving a sharp stick in my eye.

I usually don't go. In fact, I used to specifically hit the cod boats in the late 1970's and through the mid 1980's as the boats would have a somewhat light crowd for a weekend trip.

If I go for trout, it is usually without high expectations due to the sheer volume of participants. ;)

I'm a Monday morning man. Let the fish settle in a bit and the crowds return to work. I stay in Bergen county area usually the ramapo with a box of worms and a few spinners. My theories is the water here is a bit warmer than up north or out west streams.
No early start, sometime around 8 ish with a spiked cup of cafe.
No waders, no sense in scaring the fish. Guys make me laugh wading in the water. Most river you can cast across.
Thats my opening day.

Wading allows you to fish areas that are not accessible from shore. Sometimes you need to get away from brush and trees on shore to make good casts.
Also you are able to position yourself to make good drifts through likely fish holding runs and pools.
Sometimes its not how you fish, its where you stand;)
Waders keep you warmer and dry, are easy to clean after slogging through muddy, well beaten paths along the river.
On the flip side watching fly fishermen standing in the holes casting to shore is a bit annoying as they need lots of room.:D

I'll hopefully be fishing on opening day.... but on another body of water where it's not opening day that day.

I went for the first time last year and took my then-4 year old son on the North Branch and it was just too much. Maybe I'll take a day off during the week and get out there on a weekday, the Thursday after the Weds stocking sounds good.

I'm thinking Lake Aeroflex and not deal with da crowd. I only fish the brooks
on weekdays and never on a stocking day.

If it's not raining or too cold, my kids will be at Verona Park Lake--some trying to catch their first trout.

Fishing opening day is like going to a bar on St. Patty's day, it's crowded and etiquette is low. CATCH PHOTO RELEASE!!! keep one or two if you have a dinner planned but think about maybe fishing twice rather than filling a bucket of dogfood fed trout!!! Try eating perch and crappie the meat is 10,000 times better and they are naturally plentifull!!! bring a camera take a nice streamside pic, release the fish & show the world your catch!!!....in a few weeks you wont have an empty brook, you'll have another great day on the water!!!

Get a smoker like I did!!! I keep more trout now than I ever have before.

Some days are C&R, some days are for the smoker !

Probably not making out this opening day. Though the fishing is usually not that great, it's always fun to see familiar faces, and i will miss it this year.

Would not have liked to have been the one taking that pictures. That person definitely got pelted with a good dozen trout.
