Crappie Fishing

So if anyone knows me on here, I am a hardcore saltwater fisherman. My cousin's fiancee has a house right on Greenwood Lake in NY. I am thinking I am going to try my hand at this freshwater thing. I will park myself on the dock with a rod and an adult beverage. I checked the NY regs and the only thing really open right now is crappie. Does anyone have a suggestion for rigs? I did some research and it looks like a jig may work. Maybe a 1/4 or 1/8 oz bucktail? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

in my experience, crappie will take almost anything. last weekend i caught over 20 in a short time on a fly rod using an olive beadhead about 15 inches below the strike indicator.
it seems anything yellow, green etc set below a bobber (try 1-2 ft deep) works well. as someone else has said here, go light and it will be fun!

Greenwood is a great place for slab crappies, try any small crappie jigs either cast out and reel;em back slow or try under a bobber.
But if you can get some small minnows "pinheads or fatheads' fish them on a small bobber and hold on to your rods....
Good luck, i may try sunday, going to the somerset show saturday but will give it a try sunday.

So I went to a local shop in Wall Twp that has to do more with fresh water and asked my questions and the owner recommended some beginning tackle. I will let you know how I do. I heard the majority of the lake is still frozen but hopefully near the banks I will have some open water.
