looking for some info on anchor's and their sizing. I have a 16' aluminum boat with a 9.9 engine. What size anchor is recomended in different style's. thank you in advance.

I forget to say all situations. Lake, river, bay.. IN a lake you can get by with a 15 pound mushroom anchor, in the bay an 8 pound danforth should be fine.
In the rivers I like using a 28 pound navy anchor, for faster rivers such as the delaware.
every type anchor really has a special purpose depending on what the bottom type is your anchoring on.

i 2 small fluke style anchors, one has the quick release ring and the other is a solid shaft, id be willing to part with the one with the ring, its about 4-5lbs and works in lakes, ocean, sand mud rock, and using 2-4 ft of chain for a top shot i can anchor in shark river with the tide ripping,

btw, i have a 15' lund with a 25hp, always have 2 people and gear, and it hold just fine

i have a pig of a boat and use only 14 lbs. danforth but after much discusion last year on this site i went from an 8 foot length of chain to a 15 foot and it made all the differance. my boat is 24' long draws 3' has a almost 10' beam and weighs in at over 5000 lbs. just need the right combo for your particular needs.

In addition to chain being less suseptable to abbrasion from rocks, coral etc, the weight of the chain keeps the rode down on the bottom which helps your anchor to dig in and set.

I was fishing on the Knoll a few years back and we got into a nice pocket of fish in a concentrated area. Rather then continue drift fishing we decided to anchor up. The current was ripping as was the wind. It took us two shots to get the anchor dug in tight in the area we wanted to fish. Another boat about our size and with the same size anchor had the same idea. We watched as this boat tried at least 5 times to set their anchor to no avail. As they drifted by us one last time, the guy says "I can't get an anchor" As a looked at the anchor I noticed he had no chain.

When trying to anchor in a fast current or a stiff wind, a good length of chain makes all the difference in the world. Standard rule of thumb as far as length is 1/2 the length of your boat.
