I will hold the checks until we have enough to guarantee the charter then pass them on to the Capt. That way Ron doesnt have to keep track of it until we meet the deposit.

Trip is 3 months away but DONT wait as I need to hold the date with Ron as soon as possible.
We have 16 so far.

I havent been pushing until after the SSFFF Dinner was over. Glad to hear it was a huge success!

Still a long way to go but the more we get the better. Big boat, plenty of room for bucktailing!

Capt Ron's, Chris and Robbie's fishing needs no advertisement wether its stripers or fluke so we should be in for a great day. You KNOW the effort will be maxed!!!

List Updated:
Currently at 31. Need 9 more (and all deposits) to hold the date and price. If you are ON the list please try to get the deposits in no later than May 1. If you are NOT on the list then please let me know if you are interested.

Shrimpy: Shame the date doesn't work for you, June 19th was an option as well.

Ladies and Gents... Please check out the "2nd anual Fundraising post for SSFFF" Started by Dave for Saturday June 26th.
As crazy as these things are to put together, and as early as it is to commit to something like this, if you think you will be able to make it, please give Dave a heads up.
I know at the last minute when it's sold out, everyone and thier brother will want to come, so please, think about it now to keep this poor guy from going crazy at the last minute.
Dave's passion is unmatched, he is not on the board of SSFFF, he is not a customer of mine, he's just a guy who is trying to preserve something that we all love.....Fishing!!!
I'm sure a great time will be had by all, and you can gaurantee that I will bust ass that day!!! Capt.Ron

Ron,
There are still spots available (approx 10- 12), but filling up fast. just let me know as soon as you can. I may hold a couple of spots for walk-ons depending on a multitude of different factors but I wouldnt wait too long. Thanks for your offer(s) to help. Its much appreciated

The SSFFF has done wonders to keep our Fluke seasons open and with better regs than others. The RFA coming through with the extended seabass season is HUGE. I am glad we are getting the fishermen together for this trip to at least say THANK YOU to Capt Tony Bogan, Dave A, Capt Ron , Capt Adam and all the others by giving back a little to the groups they work so hard for. And we get to do so while we fish.:D

Ron, I actually had it for about 10 years now but this past spring (ironically right before the season opener) it started to give me serious problems. Wish I could have taken care of it sooner but... unfortunately I couldn't. This spring's bass fishing really pushed it to the limit! LOL.

I'll pretty much guarantee i'll be there in some way, shape or form. Looking forward to it..... and you're Miller Lite's. ;)

Given the past and most recent efforts by the RFA on our behalf I am adding the RFA-NJ to the donation benefit on this trip. The fundraising effort by those going will be split 50/50 between the SSFFF and RFA-NJ.

Here's the issue though: As it stands right now we only have 32 sign ups. Trip and price was predicated on a minimum of 40 and a goal of 50 to be able to raise some dough and keep the trip reasonable. So you can see we have some work to do.

Here is an inexpensive opportunity to give a little back to these agencies and the people that work so hard to keep our right to fish alive. You can see by the posts you read the SSFFF and RFA are obviously holding up their end of the bargain but they need our support as well. What the heck, its a day out on the water with a great crew already signed up and a great boat as well.

Trip would make an excellent Fathers Day gift for those that still have the pleasure of fishing with their Dad. Myself, Jon Devin and Howarda780 are also looking to donate a few spots for the Take a Soldier Fishing campaign.

If possible get on board. Its going to be a heck of a day!

Dave,
Due to my daughter's team making the playoffs, 1st game is afternoon of the 26th, I won't be able to make this years trip.
I do like your idea and would like to pay for a spot for one of our vet's or active duty personnel.
Ron is just getting back on his feet after gall blader surgery, and will not be making it. I will speak to you this week and get the money to you.
Thanks for doing all this, we both know how important both of these groups are, and both need as much help as possible.

Henry,
Sorry to hear you and Ron wont be there and I certainly appreciate the kind gesture.

I cant take any credit for the idea with the vets, it was Howie's idea. I am just trying to make it happen. I sent a PM to Capt Bob of SHCA as I know he runs these trips occasionally and I visited www.takeasoldierfishing.com so I will keep you guys posted on how it develops. If anyone else knows of any vets or active servicemen on or off the site that would like to go please let me know. Reelron? Tropics?

All,
Front page list updated and in order of paid / boarding for the day. We had 4 cancellations, 2 of which donated their trip so the actual count as of today stands at 32. Confirmed means paying at boat.

Heres the deal: Trip costs were based on 40 people going to cover boat cost, tip for crew and $ 5.00 donation for SSFFF and $5.00 donation for RFA. A goal of 50 was the cap on the trip but seems out of reach at this point.

Obviously and disappointingly we are still short of that 40 number. Its apparant or should be to anyone who reads anything fishing related that the SSFFF and RFA are doing a fantastic job fighting for all involved in fishing.

The hope every year running this is to give a little back to guys like Capt Ron, Capt TB, Capt Adam, Dave A, the RFA team etc etc for the groups they represent so well and work so hard for. This trip should be multiple boats, news worthy and just plain fun but every year its a last minute struggle to fill out 1 boat. Al Ristori is hyping it in his blog, Fishermen magazine doing a press breif, Brochures all over the place and posted on "other" sites.

5,440 views and less than 1 percent partcipation  Maybe people are waiting for the weather? NOT (40 of us went on PUOSU in 15 degrees and 30MPH Winds), Maybe its the economy. NOT (plenty of reports, fishing going on), Maybe fishermen dont care: NOT (plenty of computer keyboard muscles, opionions posted all the time) Maybe its the species targeted and regs: (Who cares, its a day on da water and that can be changed by popular vote day of) Maybe its me. (Now thats possible! ) I will say however that ALL of the sign ups to date have come from this site. Thats cool:D

Personally I do nothing but spend a bit of time arranging this, its those I listed above who you are doing this for but mainly you are doing it for yourselves and THANKS to everyone who signed up so far.

I am NOT going to get into anymore about WHY you should be part of this, if you dont see it by now no one is going to convince you. But if you want to do a small part and have a great NJfishing.com experience with great people then please consider getting on board.

PS: Capt Ron says we are going regardless. How F' ing unselfish is that! But I really dont want him to and cant let him take less for his work so lets get the number up there.
You will feel better about doing something than staying on the sidelines.

Made a few calls last night and the feedback was def positive, these clowns are probably better suited for a bar crawl than a fishing fund raiser, so def no pressure on biggest fish if these goons show up. Looks like so far at least 3 more, maybe 4-5 so we are definitely inching up to the magic 40 number. I'll keep pluggin away until next weekend, but I gotta imagine there are a few more lurkers out there that need to get off their AZZ and make it down to Capt Ron's Flounder Fantasia "aka get drunk catch fish n be merry" next Sat.

C'mon people just a few more days - every little bit helps!!

Couple of things:
1) Lefty (Ron): Great job recruiting, I smell a passing of the torch next year ;)
2) Tropics: As discussed on the phone paying at the boat is fine.

3)Anyone who wants to "walk-on" just CALL, POST HERE or PM to CONFIRM your spot and pay CASH at the boat.
NOTE: With a week to go all unpaid balances and walk-on fares must be CASH. Same goes for the boat and fundraiser pool(s). Thanks

Paying your deposit and "confirming" your spot means you are IN, therefore you are expected to show, if NOT or any last minute changes please fill your spot with someone who will pay the balance. we need everyone on the list.

PS: Not sure what yet but I will be doing something "extra" for those that signed up early and paid the deposit upfront. Only seems fair.

Body count nearing the "out of critical condition" and could be upgraded to stable but we still need more.
Fluke action picking up everyday! Lets get to our target this week!!!

4) Kudos to Pete from Atlantic Highlands Bait and Tackle. Spoke with him today and asked for the trip brochure to be put out in his shop. Not only did he comply but offered free ICE for all going on the trip morning of. Extremely knowledgeable and very nice guy. Sponsor shop, stop in for your ice and maybe even buy a little something.

5) ShirtGUY: Thinking maybe a Banner "RFA / SSFFF Supporters" type thing. lets discuss. I need to make sure its OK with Capt Ron beforehand.

6) Henry (jakesdad) was kind enough to offer the "Pool Winner T shirt" Yes its extra large.

7) Also big Thanks to Capt Bob Morrell SHCA for his help making contact with soldiers who may be interested in fishing with us. No firm response yet BOB but it is enlightening going through the process and I hope some of the guys take us up on the offer. I commend you on the work you do for them.

More to come this week. Getting down to the pre-trip fun stuff I hope.

Some things that may be said:
1) SSHHH Sam the Sinkerman thinks you are going.
2) Wow its 3 AM and the stern and pulpit are still available.
3) Something smells different on the boat today. I actually smell FLUKE bait.
4) Why doesnt Steve go to Florida in the winter like the rest of us.

Things you wont hear:
1) Damit another hang up on da rocks, I only brought 500 bucktails!
2) I never win anything.
3) Stay outta my Shrimp Lefty
4) Chris, NET, NET, NET, Never mind its the bottom

Dave, I want to personally thank you for once again helping the SSFFF raise money for our current projects and future ones as well. Not only that but thank you for helping spread the "word". We as fishermen are all in this mess together and you realize that and also realize the fact that we all need to be involved. I wish the trip was sold out but understand that many have to work and economic times are difficult. However, I commend all those attending and would like to offer the following incentive: a limited edition (only 10 made) Guy Harvey giclee for the largest fluke caught and a new rod and reel for the largest legal fluke caught by anyone 16 and younger.

Dave,
Thanks for the kind words but its much more about what you guys do. We also have a lot of familiar faces from last year, new recruits and some who couldnt make it but offered donations. As you stated, they deserve a ton of credit for their time and $$. After last years trip none of us even knew if we would have a season this year. We got a season and better yet regs that are tolerable compared to other areas thanks to the work of SSFFF and RFA.

The Guy Harvey and Rod/ Reel gesture are certainly appreciated, over and above and will make the day even more competitive (I mean special).

Dave Arbietman's offer brings up a point. I dont know everyone going personally yet or some of your guests. I am sure some of us qualify for acting 16 but do we actually have any 16 or younger on board??

Update on the tally, I have 5 more guys that are promising to be at the boat on Sat rain or shine, I dont want you to put their names down cause you dont know them personally and as generous as I am Im not paying their way if they bail BUT... hypothetically this put us up around 39. Still waiting on 2 more also paying boatside so we might actually hit 40 afterall.

Heads up to ALL:
Spoke with Capt Ron, if all people are accounted for earlier than later we may be able to push off earlier than 7:30 (like 7). I advertised the trip for people to be there no later than 6:45 and to depart at 7:30. So if you can get there earlier than 6:45 do so, if NOT than we leave at the advertised time even if its just one person that cant do early. Good thing is eveyone that is going is from this site or is with someone from here so the word should be easily passed.

Sat AM routine:
1)Show up
2) Pay the balance of your fare. (i will be there collecting fares off the master sheet hopefully by 6AM)
3) Buy your 50/50 tickets (optional) Tickets are 4 for $10.00 or 12 for $20.00
4) Get your stuff together and wait for your boarding call.
5) Largest fish pool will be handled on the boat by the crew.

Getting down to the wire:D

Vin, hating life right now. In a hell of alot more pain then I ever expected. Today's the first day im actually able to get up and get to the computer. Can't stand long before I have to sit down & ice it up. 40+ stitches on the inside. :( Surgeon said 6 weeks before I can go back to work but, hoping when I go see him for the post op he tells me different.

Trying to get out there on Saturday but right now it seems unlikely. I can barely stand, let alone be out on a boat all day. See what happens tomorrah'.

No one does this better than LAB but here goes. Some of you I know, some a little and some not at all. So I just made shyte up for FUN or if there is nothing its because I know nothing. Just fun so no hatin!!!

Pool Predictions:
- Vintastic: Has the pulpit (I assume) or at least first choice of spots, hot hand this year on the Fishermen. Has to be considered a threat.
- Hartattack: Been excited about the trip since March like a little kid. Lots of swings and misses.
- Thehammer: Actually responded to gerry about the ladies room: No chance
- Dockbuilder: Obviously (the name) knows something about bottom structure BUT we aint fishing at the dock.
- Mike M: heard some good things.
- Jon devin: Couldnt defend due to family issues. Hat and Crocs stay in the closet till next year. He coulda been a contender. Watch out for the donated replacement ?
- CJAZ: Sounds like a bottom fishermen
- MG / Duffman: Between "cooler" attendence and getting thrown out of the wheelhouse, I dont see enough fishing time to warrant consideration.
-Howarda780: Too nice a guy, no chance.
- ALSMako: Quiet, consistent and nonstop changing of bucktails. Got a few keepers last year. Could be a player.
- Lefty Reeler: Lots of good Karma floatin around for bumping up the trip count and helping out. Has the equipment but the technique??. Better happen early before the coolers open and the Italian socializing starts.Watch out for Ron SR though.-
- Shirtyguy: Too many capital letters and ink on the brain.
- John Henderson: Will be looking for Tuna on the surface all day and playing with the latest high tech spinning gear. Heck of a bottomfisherman though if its grouper or drum. Duh its a Fluke trip.
- Gerry Z: May know more about blackfishing than LAB but:: Unless he uses his "I own the site" mojo to trade up to a stern spot I dont see it in the cards.
- GDubya07: Seen some good reports but not this year and he call everyone SIR. Not happening
- Krueger: Dont know him but somehow feel he could be a factor.
- Bill-fish: Again too nice like Howie.
- Reelerin: Def a player but will be too busy identifying every bird that flies over and looking at how to better manage the landscape.
- Sinkerman: Too busy selling sinkers to fish.
- Tropics: Dresses the part and has the goods to finish in the top 5

RON SR: will go about his boat duties and pop out every so often to end up with a limit plus and the prize: (except hes not allowed in da pool)
- ME: Still practicing knots, no threat

My money is on Gdubya to get the biggest fish to just below the surface. It's going to take him 10 minutes to do so with his game face on, reeling a 6.3:1 conventional at 1" per second. Now he hasn't fished much as his back has been healing so he's going to see that double digit monster, lose his composure from all of the excitement and pop it off.

ALSMako will land an early 5#'er, someone will take the lead from him, then he'll land a 7#'er late in the day for the win. Although he'll smile, he'll just keep talking about how little it is compared to the halibut.

Yes, Howie will be too busy caring about everyone else to invest the effort in winning :)

Fender's Uncle "IN"
Fender's Friend "MAYBE"
Fender's Friend's Girlfriend "MAYBE"
Pistol Pat "IN"
HR Specialist "MAYBE"
HR Speacialist's Husband "MAYBE"

As for the pool, my money is on ALS otherwise rental rod takes it on a dummy stick with a mouth full of ginger snaps, gnawing on ginger root while taking sips of Ginger Ale.

See u monkeys in the morning - I'll be down there at 6am sunglases on killing Miller Lites, and just cause I talk with my hands doesnt make me Italian.

Ron Sr (Not Captain Ron's Sr), now owns a Fish Poison so look out the Duke of Fluke rests quielty among the herd until the iron is hot.

Wish I could have made this trip. I believe during PUOSU2 they were calling old salts 35 and up. Seems a bit young to me, but that's what it was at the time.

Best of luck to you guys! Sounds like it will be a fun filled day.

I look to be back fishing by next weekend. I cut the cast off a few nights ago and started the re-hab process. I can get the thumb in a comfortable position on the Heineken bottle with less pain each day. Since that is my spool thumb I need to put it through a vigorous workout.

Lefty has a better chance of winning the pool if he leaves the cooler at the dock. :p otherwise it's all miller lite's and shop-rite goombah sammiches.

Well think the turnout was better than the fishing today, but that's fishing sometimes. We ran down the beach fished the rough stuff and not much to be had, but a great day none the less with some quality angles and a few new faces. Thanks again Dales, Capt Ron, Robbie, Mike and Chris. Congrats to John H on the heaviest fluke and also Gerry Z for taking down the 50/50. We raised a good amount of dough for a great cause looking forward to this trip every year. Steve you were definitely missed but shirtguy did you a solid, the pics will tell all. Nice meeting Heart-attack, duffman, dockbuilder, G_Dubya and a few others. Have a great weekend, good luck to all those in the shark tourney.

Steve in mind body and soul...nothing like taking a leak and having a conversation with Shrimpman. My fishing shirt, and me edging out Duffman on the Starfish Challenge, his unfort took one look at my beast and dropped two legs so I took the title.

Shrimpmans pics all over the place and in the head? Creepy or disturbing, I cant decide which?

"this is the spot guys, give it your all"

Trying to punch every short off MG's hook before it got on the deck.

Hammers reaction to Jack sitting on his cooler, Holy $hit I almost cried!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p

Thanks again Capt. Ron, Dales and everyone else who put the trip together. Great time on the Fishermen yesterday with a great crew as always (Robbie was right there for a few more snags than I would've liked), and nice to meet Gerry, Duffman, MG, and a bunch of other NJfishing members while seeing familiar faces as well.

No shortage of laughs as usual -- Chris telling Ron (Lefty) "this is the spot, try real hard here" one of the many lines that had me laughing all afternoon!!

Dales and John - hope you survived the night bluefish trip if you had the stamina and mako mania went well.

Larry (Hartattack) I'll make sure Sr. us available next time out.

Looking forward to next years trip!! :D
