1988/89 Bacardi!!!! I used a old / 6/0 senator and 50lb ande straight to the hook!!! simple and cheap caught at least 10 every trip all summer. I think I totaled over 100 for the summer!!! Those were an honest 80-120 lb fish!!! I made enaought to buy a 50tw.I think i paid $249 for the reel with line!!! That was a nice upgrade!! I have not caught any like that in a long time!!! these little 40-50 lb I catch on bluefish gear!!! ohhh the memories!!:) :) :)

Great post brought back great memories of the old days. capt Al Coley was kind of crazy Betty W was one of the best bluefish boats. When the boats caught fish they would blow their horns and everyone would come running to see what they caught. Nice to see those big eye tuna and you could keep what you caught.

Once again- Thanks for posting that!! Those were my roots. Brought back many memories and old faces Larry H, Duke Brown, a youger Joe Huck, Joe "Botts", Tommy Stiles, Chris ???(the last name escapes mem maybe began with an L or a G ?- fished with Him with Donald and Red during those years) and I'm sure I heard "Skippy" in there although He was camera shy.
Love seeing the old school stuff!!! Where did those come from??

Mario, someone posted them on the internet. It amazing how thin Tommy was back then. Im not sure but I think that's Tommy's son on the Helen H trip (Tommy Jr I believe)....
I think that's also Kenny Mitchell in the beginning of the Betty W tuna trip hugging the tuna...
PS - Last time I saw Tommy, he looked just like Billy Batts from Goodfellas... lol.

Yup that was Mr. Mitchell- I knew I forgot someone.
Gotta look again for Tommy Jr. I saw Tommy Sr. not too long ago and he looks good. Nice to still see some of those old faces down the bay.

Ha! Coley was the best! A modern day Popeye if I ever did see one. He'd cut your line if you used under 80# test. Never forget one fabulous trip where we tied into a mother load of big eyes. Boat came back into the bay way low in the water, fish were all 150+ Huge yellow fins, Allisons, man, that was a gret boat to tuna fish on!
