Been asked on more than one occasion to post a list of acronyms and definitions, the most recent was just in the past week or so.

So....... I started putting together a list of the most pertinent acronyms, links and definitions that we deal with in the North East.

Then I started linking to the associated sites for some legislation.

Then I..... well, you get the picture. So here it is, my "hot list" with links where appropriate and a link at the end to the ULTIMATE fisheries acronym guide and definition list, courtesy of the Pacific Fishery Management Council!

Thank you Capt. This is great. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Understanding these terms and acronyms is the first step in understanding how fisheries management works or doesn't work.

Great handy stuff Cap, thanks.

It appears though that you and Pacific Fishery missed the acronym of our chief opponent:
PEW: Preventing Education (about) Wildlife :p

J/K - for those in the dark about Pew here's the Wiki definition: The Pew Research Center is an American think tank organization based in Washington, D.C. that provides information on issues, attitudes and trends shaping the United States and the world. The Center and its projects receive funding from The Pew Charitable Trusts.

Capt.TB,

Thank you for this post. This now makes for a better read of many posts. You are the man! Educating the uneducated. Now if you could only get through to the ignorant.

Wow, this is a lot to digest. Great stuff.

When my kids were younger, they would come into my office at home and ask what I was doing while I was posting fisheries info. My son (he was about 7 or 8) looked at one of my posts with all the acronyms in it and said "Daddy, those aren't real words. Some of them don't even have any vowels in them!"

My response was, "Michael, that's alright, the information those agencies put out isn't real either!":D
