[Life's A Beach]

I took a poll and less than 30 people said they would go regardless of which boat.

I did research (with some help from Tony Bogan) and it looks like the black fish limit will be the normal 4 fish starting in January; not smaller creel limit or closed.

What I need now is a real list to decide which direction to go. To go with either of the bigger, sponsor boats I would need 40 people to commit to the trip. If I can't get that many people then I'll go with the smaller boat and limit the trip to 25.


the trip WILL be held on January 9th. It's a Saturday. We will fish out of the Manasquan River. We will fish either Long Branch/Sea Girt/Axel Carlson OR Barnegat/Garden State North; completely depending on where the fish are at that time. The southern trip is slightly more expensive so the fare will be ~ $5-$10 more. I do NOT have the exact cost at this time as it is dependent on who we sail with. The trip will cost ~ $95 each. This will be fare, tip, white leggers, pool AND $5 each angler to be donated to RFA.

The sign-up for the trip will be given ADVANCED noticed. The sign-up will be open to ANY member of njfishing.com; PERIOD. NO ONE will be allowed to sign-up early OR for anyone else. There will be a CROWN for this year's winner. Gerry, njfishing.com OR LAB are NOT responsible for ANY injuries incurred from flying bank sinkers if you choose to fish by Scooter. Boarding will occur in the order that you sign up for the trip.

This is NOT a sign-up thread; that will come later.

Please post in this thread if you SERIOUSLY want on this trip. I will crunch the numbers and see what we need to do after this list is generated.

We have ~ 40 so far.

I've booked The Voyager for the trip. He's on channel drive in Point Beach.

The FARE is $65 per person. Jeff asked for a 50% deposit before the end of the year. If you signed up and are going I need you to mail me a check for $30 before the end of the year. Make the check payable to "The Voyager" but mail it to me @ 2230 riviera parkway, point pleasant 08742. PLEASE don't mail the check in directly as I need to keep track of all monies.

$65 fare (quoted $55 for "local" and $65 for southern; I opted for the latter)
$10 tip (if you want to tip more, you may do so but the first $10 will be included in the money I collect)
$5 for whiteleggers This will supply close to 4 bushels for everyone to use.
$5 to be donated to RFA
$10 Pool


Total $95................$30 deposit before end of year and $65 day of the trip.

Boarding will be in the order you signed up in this thread. It's a BIG boat and could handle twice as many so there will be plenty of room to move around. I'm also sure they galley will be open. Heated handrails!!!

Contrary to majority who will look to improve their posted odds....I ask mine to be raised significantly! With every weekend licking the proverbial SACK weather wise and the inability to excuse myself from a single day of work I haven't been out NEARLY enough to even be seriously considered (although I DO appreciate the criticism it has already erupted). :D

yeah i did have a tough time on the explorer on x-mas eve, my leader kept braking off "inches away" from the knot. Spent more time tying rigs than fishing but still had a great time even though i lost a few potential good ones. It will be easy to spot me on the 9th ill be the only one fishing for tog with wire line...lol

Leif (The OLD man) - The House is DROOLING over this chance. Last seen rock-hopping on a jetty listening to 70's music with long hair. His tenacity (The House calls this stubborness although it's not a BAD THING) still has him surf fishing for stripers. The Leif Smile will be a welcome site on the trip. The screams when he swings/and/misses from the pain in his elbow will wipe that smile off his face. Kudos for being a trooper. But being a trooper ain't gonna put a crown on his head. 100:1

Leif (The OLD man) - The House is DROOLING over this chance. Last seen rock-hopping on a jetty listening to 70's music with long hair. WELL, he still has the long hair and still listens to 70's music but he's long ago given up the challenge of black fishing for the comfort of jigging for Cod (and mackeral). His tenacity (The House calls this stubborness although it's not a BAD THING) still has him surf fishing for stripers. The Leif Smile will be a welcome site on the trip. The screams when he swings/and/misses from the pain in his elbow will wipe that smile off his face. Kudos for being a trooper. But being a trooper ain't gonna put a crown on his head. 100:1

Leif (Leiflet, Young Leif, Junior) - Interesting........The kid certainly is game for fishing in all types of weather. And he catches too. The rod cost me $265.00.....without the tog skin extras that I did myself. Probably 8 hours of skin work, not including the tanning, defleshing and softening of the skin to make it workable. The thing is, I don't know if there is another one like it. I had pics of it posted in rodbuilder magazine website and out of every builder there, no one had ever heard of it being done. So......its basically priceless to me.:) The reel is expendable..165.00 would cover that...well...I DID upgrade the drags and the handle and I have 65lb suffix braid on it which might add another $55 bucks.

Spelling was never my strong suite (or is that suit:rolleyes: ). Holding on to a $495 outfit in the dead of winter while drinking beer is not one either.

I was anchored up at the Rocks fishing one time in the late fall. I had just purchased my first decent outfit....A Loomis rod paired to a Avet SX and was fishing it for the first time..... We were using clams that day so my hands were pretty slimey. I get a huge hit and go to transfer the pole from my right hand to my left to set the hook. It never makes it and I watch in horror as it goes into the drink.:confused:

Luckily about a half hour later one of the guys we are fishing with snags the pole and we get it back... Thank God! That would have been a very long day of fishing for me...

Although I appreciate the offer, a man has got to know his limitations. I'm way too clumsy to be entrusted with an outfit like yours... Got any Penn Squiders laying around??

It has an Avet lefthanded reel on it. You can hold the "pole" the way you normally do and you won't have to transfer it to reel (IF you actually catch anything beyond a stray bergall).

Let me know and I'll bring it along. If not, I'll bring the pole and someone else can bring you a reel that isn't as "SPECIAL" as Baby Al's bloody purple snurple sewing machine-sounding like Newdle

Now I'm REALLY depressed...my offer to use one of my tog setups has been refused...I set it all up last nite, 20' of brand new 50lb top shot tied to the braid with a beautiful slim beauty knot and a hand crafted SNAFU rig tied in with care. All you needed was a sinker.

THEN, I have to read the comments from the PEANUT gallery about my GAME FACE??? When I step foot on a headboat for tog there is nothing BUT a game face. I fish the starboard BOW with my length of graphite and a hunk of lead and a hook, tied to some line thats connected to a multiplying device.

And to top it all off...SCOTTY is coming..:eek: Scott...please wear your green jacket and your flyers hat. I miss them:) And PLEASE don't cast into the anchor rope while I'm fishing the bow. ;)

I offered.........my thought process was YOU SAID you held your rod LIKE a lefty does....then you shift it to reel. I was just trying to save you the switch-over step??? But I understand............reeling up all day to put bait on (after your bait gets stolen) or to ask the mate to re-tie you up (breaking off on the bottom) could be a challenge left-handed.

We'll wait and see but I'm leaning to asking The Captain to fish us GSN (if the weather is do-able). Just about the right time of the year. Other options are SGR or K. We'll see Saturday.

Was just out to "the stable" and my thoroughbred is ready to go!

HONESTLY........ONE TIME......try a lefthanded reel. 90% of fishermen fish "left handed" and switch it over to reel right handed; LIKE YOU.

I grew up spinning reel and reeled left handed. Started right handed with baitcasters and didn't feel comfortable.

There are going to be MANY very good tog fishermen on this trip.........the odds to catch the MOST will fall to THEM. Waiting out the "right bite" may fall to them too. But with 40+ fishermen...........there's a good chance a neophyte can drop their crab in front of Mr Pool Fish and take the title.

I dont know Lab tough choice, but with the weather forecast you may wanna opt to the North .Its been steady. Would love to go barely broke in my new tog rod , but i have those Macks to KILL.
