Checked into Smith's Colonial Hotel Sunday night to get up bright and early and start my day on Monday. The day started at Trout Town USA and Roscoe diner for breakfast, that cheese omelet was the highlight of the trip. I don't know what is going on up there but I don't like it. Started on the Beaverkill in better than ideal conditions. It seems when I first started going up there 15 years ago I couldn't NOT catch a fish in the Beaverkill. I mean it was a no brainer with 16 and 17 inch browns and rainbows being caught easily, now nothing. The place seems to become overrun. I have never seen so many boats and people up there, even Deposit on the West branch looked like opening day trout in NJ. Some areas in Deposit I couldn't even find a parking spot, mind you this is a MONDAY in APRIL. Garbage everywhere, people everywhere, boats everywhere, I can't imagine what a weekend in May or June would look like up there. My drift boat guide has been catching what seems to be some nice trout. All my "go-to" spots were a bust. Has being crowned Trout Town USA finally taking it's toll on the area. I may start looking West to the Lehigh and points North/West with the last of the "cool" weather before the heat kicks in.
