Pulled in to Prospertown just before 6 am to an empty lot. Watched a Bald Eagle chase off an Osprey as I unloaded my gear. There were some Cormerants around the skimmer down to the end of the dam. They swam further out as I walked out to my spot. The cold wind was on my back as I set out my first rod. Glad that I remembered my gloves and watchcap. Missed a fish before I could get the second rod out. Fishermen started to show up as the light replaced the shadows. Got another bite on the mousetail. The fish took a short run only to falloff. One of the regulars set up right next to me. I got another bite and this one stayed stuck. Bounced it up on top of the dam, got the stringer but had to drop everything to catch another trout. The guy next to me got bit twice and lost both fish as I was finishing stringing my two. Got the rods back in the water as the wind started to switch. We could hear the eagle calling as it soared with its mate. Got another trout that I thought I lost when it swam into a bunch of coontailmoss and stopped fighting. A fisherman in the far corner got 2 trout in five minutes. Geese were trading up and down the lake and a pair of Swans swam out of the cove and started to feed in the shallows. Got one more trout and left the lake around 9:30. Not bad for my first trip of the season.
Caught all four on chartreuse/orange mousetails. All their stomachs were empty. I was surprised at how cold the water is. Hope the cold water slows down the aquatic growth. Hope to hit the lake one more time this week.
