I emailed the NJ Water Supply Authority today and this was their response:

Good Afternoon,

NJWSA generally opens the fish ladder in mid to late March, depending on weather conditions and the availability of the vac truck contractor needed to remove accumulated sediment from the structure. Current contractor availability has the opening scheduled for March 27.

March 24, still closed !!!!

Guy just posted response of 3/27 as the scheduled date to clean out and open it. Why would you think it'd be open sooner?

For fish it's all about the water temp, for water companies it's all about we will get around to it when we feel like it. Shad in Easton on the Delaware river already.

Shad have been in the rivers for months already .
Temps going up only make them start to hit .
That ladder should probably have been opened in February

I think March 1st would be a good date for everyone involved. Watch how fast they slam it shut, can't even leave it open through the summer.

Andy,

The other poster in this thread did something you did not do yourself, and even posted it would be open on 3/27. If you do not agree with the opening date, you should actually do something about it. Not trying to be an arse, just trying to be constructive and refocus your angst in a more positive direction.

I'm not trying to be an arse either but since when do we let water companies control the movement of migratorily fish ? I would think that would be better left up to NFF&W, NJDEP, or NJUSF&W don't you think ?
