The New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council had a special meeting, via webinar, on 12/1 fish@43"8/2024 The sole agenda item for the meeting was to set the Cobia regulations for 2025. NJ is in the northern sector of the Atlantic cobia fishery, and has deminimus status in the fishery. The regulations for 2024 were 1 fish at 37". There is a reduction required for the northern sector as landings have exceeded expectations for several years. The northern sector includes the states north of Virginia, as there is genetic information that the fishery north is linked to Chesapeake Bay. All of the other states had agreed to a 2 fish bag limit @43" with significant seasonal closures for Virginia and Maryland. The other states are all considered de minimus, and as such have no closed season
