While those whose livelihood depend on fishing for them can and should write about how it will effect their business .
Others writing in that fish their own boats should be directing their letters a little differently .
There are WAY more people fishing for stripers than those on charter and head boats .
Instead of it being just about charter and head boat losses .
It should include impact to ALL boat owners , marinas , bait and tackle shops , diners , gas stations etc .
The impact will be felt way beyond the fishing fleet .
And should be addressed as such , it turns the few into many more .
There ABSOLUTELY needs to be a new look on fisheries management .
Total resource management from bait , through every other species .
Example is they tighten regs on sea bass , which stocks are well beyond rebuilt .
While they allow sea bass to crush lobster stocks .
Reduce dogfish quotas so commercial guys won’t even target them , while they are out if control and eating up every other available species .
There are millions of people enjoying the shore fisheries on the East Coast .
The only way things will change is if MANY start to open their eyes and demand change before we soon can’t fish for anything .
The amount of fishing opportunities that have been lost in the last 15-20 years is staggering .
Our local politicians need to start to wake up to these losses , and pushed so they demand change before shore communities in entirety loose lots of expected revenue.
