Went down to the Gambler for my annual Black Friday Striper trip. We left with a full boat of eager Fisher persons. Capt. Bob turned right and we saw birds working immediately. Put her on a drift with cold breeze from shore pushing us along. I started throwing a large silver croc with only a couple of swats nothing coming tight. Switched to a naked Ava 47 and dropped a couple quickly. The nets started to go over with some Stripers being caught. Capt. Bob set up for another drift putting our side up current. Put my slot in the tote and released a 33"er. We had a pick going with mostly keepers coming over the rail. We moved further south stopping on birds and readings. Got my bonus fish as we continued to move south. The sun felt good as our day progressed but the breeze stiffened. We were by ourselves most of the time for the rest of the day. I had a 3 fish drift on the up current side. We worked our way north till 3 horns. I ended up with 11 only keeping my limit. John from the Reel seat also retained his limit and caught around 12. There were a lot of limits around the boat.
I caught all my fish on a naked ava 47. Green tail diamond jigs were working all around me. We caught a few Dog fish toward the end of the trip. The up current side was where I caught most of my fish. Steady retrieve with pauses was the ticket for me.
I would like to thank Capt. Bob and the Gambler crew for doing such a good job and those who came down to fish on another Black Friday with me. Let's do it again next year.
