Gambler returned from a good canyon trip last night. Great diversity of Canyon creatures.
During the night, we released a small sword, caught a couple yellowfin and wrestled with a 200lb mako (released of course) and a 200lb blue shark.
Just before dawn, the tuna bite took over. 50lb class yellowfin with a few bigger and smaller in the mix. A couple of 40lb longfin were caught before the sun came up. Most were taken on butterfish or sardine baits, a few were caught on jigs. We also fought a big white marlin, close to 100lbs, to the boat.
It's great to see some of the more experienced tuna fishermen help the newer guys catch a fish. --Tim V caught his limit early, then proceeded to help some first timers hook and land their first tunas. The comradery on board is what makes party boat fishing unique!
A terrific combination of weather, fish frenzy and happy fishermen --and women.
Gambler was on her way again at noon. Will return by 6PM tomorrow
