I finally got a chance to get out on my boat and do some fishing yesterday after a long hiatus. Man it was great to be out on the water again with my friend John and catch some fish. Headed down the beach to some hard bottom and slugged away at some nice fluke. There where Spanish macks jumping everywhere, never seen so many in all my years out on the water. Also the biggest breech of a whale that I ever witnessed. The splash looked like a car being dropped in the water from a 10 story building. It really did me some good to get out there again. Nothing like ocean fishing. Now is the time to catch some big fluke, As long as we don't get any big storms the fishing will continue to improve so get out there and catch em up! Tight Lines!

New member here, just browsing through the posts. Always good to see someone getting a chance to get back out there and get on some fish. Congrats on what sounds like a great day. If you don't mind me asking, where did you go out of and see the whale? Same thing happened to me in early august out near the Tolton lump. An incredible thing to see...

Glad you were able to get back on the horse Detour... Nothing like some salt water therapy and your timing couldn't have been better with the improved Fluking.

Welcome to NJFishing 16Parker. This fishing site is the best you will find in MHO. The whales are a few miles off the Sandy Hook beach area oceanside. Lot's of times you will see the big Seastreak boats loaded with tourists out there looking for them also. If you are new to this area just remember it can get nasty out there real quick so always keep an eye on ocean conditions, Good luck and tight lines!

Thank you for the warm welcome and advice. I grew up fishing in/near Barnegat, and know some of the water, but this is the first time I have had a boat slip in the area. I definitely pay close attention to the forecasts, as my boat is only a 21. The inlet becomes very unforgiving, very quickly.

Those Mac’s have been frustrating as hell for me. Very finicky. Did you get any? I didn't have my spinning outfit with me of all days so the answer is no. I should know better by now especially this time of year. I am willing to bet a Ava 005 casted and reeled in fast will get them lights out. And thanks. It was a great day on the water!

Nice and thx! How are Spanish macks for table fare?

Caught them years ago but had to troll way behind the boat with a weighted Clark spoon or small Japanese feathers. Don't recall the speed, sort of medium. But the lure had to be back a ways or they wouldn't hit. As far as table fare, they were delicious if eaten that night or the next day. I froze them once and they didn't hold up but they were absolutely delicious fresh. Probably good sushi for those on the board in the know. Enjoy!

So.....Im a fat guy who is a picky eater....try and figure that out:D

That being said, i liked it. First time i ever cooked them. just filleted, left skin on a grilled until done. Thought they were a little soft but overall tasted pretty good.

I'm sure guys who have caught cooked and eaten more than I have will have better advice. bottom line is id def eat them again but wouldn't freeze and defrost only eat fresh.
