WOW! A 12 foot jon boat in the rip is enough to be wary of but to bring something like that in is a leading candidate for catch of the decade!

An amazing story to put it mildly. As June pointed out, a tin boat in the rip itself is sketchy. Second, how someone handles a fish that size by themselves is pretty amazing. Third, I see two rod holders in the boat, one where the rod is and one off the transom. If he turned his motor off and the bft towed the boat, he would have turned to the starboard or transom and that boat would have been swamped, especially in the that area with all the current. Keeping the motor on, chasing the fish in the direction it's running, avoiding boat traffic and shipping lanes and being able to get a dart in her is insane. Kudos to the angler, not sure how he pulled it off.
As a side note, if bait is in that tight to the beach to attract bfts that close, maybe fluke are in that tight as well but I still believe there's something drastically wrong in that fishery.
Congratulations to the angler, unbelievable story and abilities!

Definitely fake, no bait, no tackle, no safety equipment whatsoever.

Don't know if it's fake or not but the thing that caught my eye is nothing on board and no blood. Tuna bleed like Lizzy Borden's crime scene, guy has a white shirt on and not a drop of blood anywhere including on the fish which I assume was darted or inside the boat. For that matter, no visible harpoon or gaff on board either. Hum!!!!!

The taxidermist took care of all that

I went around the tip of the hook in a 12 ft Duranautic with a 9.9, it was more stupidity than anything else.
I'm with the rest, white shirt, no blood, no gaff, no safety equipment makes for a fishy story, I don't even see numbers on the bow nor a sticker.

Think maybe the graphic designer or photoshopper took care of all that:D. I hope I'm wrong because it's a great story but if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and waddles like a duck.......you get my point. Like I said I hope it happened, maybe someone who witnessed it can chime in or maybe a picture of the fish back at the docks could validate the story if it's true. Otherwise this is right up there with Orsen Wells and War of the World's.

The funniest thing about the whole story is the mention of the Sandy Hook Rips.
When was the last time the Rips existed? 10-11 years ago or more? The 11 and 11A are literally 20 yards of the beach?
Now the ACOE setting their pilings to anchor the dredge barge once again.
*Correction….ACOE is heading it up , not sure who the contractor is.

Not sure what to believe, but that is a wide, flat, very stout looking boat, and would likely be a lot more stable than you guys might think.. It would pound like hell, but would be a very stable fishing platform, rip or no rip.. I have been in the churning SH rip in a very lightweight aluminum boat boat with a well designed and stable hull and no problem fishing at all.. Just need to not pound against the rollers while underway...
