Fishing in Alaska?

I'm thinking of planning a trip to Alaska down the road, mostly interested in salmon & halibut, not interested in fly fishing. Is there a lodge anybody can recommend? I don't need luxury accommodations, just solid fishing & decent room & meals, right now it looks like my wife wants to tag along. Thanks in advance!

Icy Bay lodge was an awesome place to fish . Super remote . Only having the crew there and the party of 6 fishing within 60 miles

Tanaka lodge was a great spot also .not as remote as their is the town of Elfin cove that has other camps there . But trip quality fishing wise really was dependent on which captain you got there .

Food and accommodations at both places was top shelf .


I laughed looking at 5 star meals though where I would have been happy eating a ham sandwich lol.

Island View Lodge Sitka Alaska.
Nice benefit to this lodge is the boats are right at the lodge along with their fish processing so you don't have to travel anywhere when you wake up to fish. Just a 100 feet walk to the dock. Stupid fishing there for salmon, halibut, rockfish, lingcod, etc.

My son, My brother, and I have gone to Jimmy Jack's in Kenai the last 3 years, heading back in June...they run trips on the kenai for salmon, The kasilof for salmon and monster trout, halibut out of Homer, and Lingcod/salmon/rockfish out of Seward....Its a pretty cool setup where if you get blown out of a trip, they will shuffle the schedule around to get you out for something else...the only somewhat drawback is they are based in Soldotna/Kenai, so the trips out of Seward and Homer have a bit of car ride to both, but the scenery is amazing....They have 2 lodges, the original and the "seascape" which is more "upscale"....we've been at the original lodge all 3 years and love it...breakfast every morning and a shore lunch (basically you make your own sandwiches, and bag lunch) and we're on our own for dinner...At seascape, they provide breakfast, lunch, and a sitdown dinner...Guides there are great, and we've also booked fly in trips with Alaska West Air which have been amazing too! One thing to keep in mind s fish precessing & freezing & getting them back to lower 48...the ldoge will process and box em up for you, but there's a cost involved, not sure how other places do it...
