Hosted a father/son trip on our boat with Mike and Jake, Jim and Jimmy and Adam and Hudson. Had high hopes and the weather cooperated but the fish didn't.

Worked our way down Sandy Hook looking for signs of Stripers to no avail. Had some marks, tried jigging on them and when that didn't work we went up on the troll and had 1 Bluefish.

Switched over to do a drop or 2 for Blackfish and got one lone fish on a jig. Anchoring was tough. We had 10- 15 mph breeze out of the north thinking that's perfect. Only problem was we had an opposing screaming current out of the south and rather than coming tight to the anchor, we'd flop around and the current would push us up on the anchor.

Saw some birds come up close to us so picked up the anchor and motored over and tried jigging but the birds were pretty scattered and the winds started honking so we took a bumpy ride home.

In spite of the poor fishing the company was great and we found out my grandson Hudson loves the ocean and cutting crabs. Big thanks to Jake, he worked the cockpit like a rabid Mongoose keeping everything in order each time we switched gears.

All in all a great trip with close friends and their sons and got to spend some quality time on the water with my Son in law Adam and grandson Hudson. Can't beat that!

Did the same and really stroked it all day Friday. Tough day.

Kudos to your young group of guys. Glad to hear they kept going even tho the bite was slow.

Yep they were troopers young and old. I wanted to get my Grandson Hudson on his first Striper but I guess it'll have to wait till next year. Boat comes out soon so I guess it's time to get reacquainted with my wife and get after all the leaves that have been piling up....

Glad that you got out and shared the experience with such good company. Some of my best times were when the fishing/hunting wasn't so good. I'm getting fewer and fewer opportunities to share my passions with loved ones as time goes on. Hope you can get one more in before you pull the boat.
Leaves? What leaves?

Thanks me too. I have three 50 foot Pin Oaks so I have my work cut out for me and I see some Advil in my future.
