I know there are some members of this great site that travel down here to southeast Florida during the winter , either on vacation or extended stays . If anyone is going to be here on the Treasure Coast from Hobe Sound to Fort Pierce , the winter surf fishing is off to a great start . This type of fishing is accessible to everyone and whether you want to bring your own gear , book a surf charter , or buy some equipment to hit the surf when you get here , we are catching some fish . Bluefish, blue runners, ladyfish, whiting, Spanish mackerel, jacks to 20 pounds, and most importantly- the pompano , are all being caught on a daily basis . I just had longtime friend and fishing buddy Mark Carduner from Point Pleasant down for a few days this past week and we managed to put 30 pompano in the cooler along with most of the above mentioned species . Mark runs the Corkscrew out of Southside Marina in Pt Pleasant and I’m sure lots of you have seen his boat catching tuna, stripers , fluke, and sea bass . The past two seasons have been less than spectacular for those of us that chase the pompano but this year it has started out great . Lack of sand fleas, big surf, off colored water, and tons of weeds have killed us tge past two seasons. So if you’re headed down this winter feel free to contact me for some tips , info, or to book a surf charter . I’ll be happy to point you in the right direction. Good to hear, last noticed many anglers jigging Pomps off the causeway bridge goofy jigs with a teaser attached.
What hook do you recommend for the teaser?
Much appreciated.
