Foul Hook

We had beautiful seas today for Megan's Ring last trip of the season. Plan was to fish all day and we got that accomplished. Fishing was overall slow but expected. Water temp came way down after the freeze to 40/41 degrees. We fished the Axel today with a bunch of other boats. Our final tally was 13 k with one guy getting a limit. Bite was very scratchy and non commital. I was swinging on bites that were just a scratch and hooking up. We had one big one which measured 22in by yours truly but that was it for size as most were short or a just a keeper. End of the day we wanted to hit one more spot so I was reeling up when I get stuck inThe wreck. Then I said why are we moving so fast? Turns out we think a BFT picked up my crab. My Shimano 14 was getting dumped as we were picking up the anchor. The reel is brand new with 300yds of 50lb braid and backer. The fish spooled me down to the end of the backer when I cranked down the drag and broke it off, pretty cool. So that's it, most fish on white crabs and rigs in 65 to 70 ft of water. Happy New Year yall!!
