Caught, tagged and released a 20” striped bass with a black Bomber A-16 in the Manasquan, NJ, surf tonight. One hit in two hours of casting 6 different lures is very slow fishing but I may try it again tomorrow. New moon fishing is best with black lures.

Caught, tagged and released a 21” striped bass on my brother John’s homemade synthetic buck tail teaser in the Manasquan, NJ, surf this evening on the outgoing tide during a nor’wester small craft advisory. Air temp was only 35 degrees. I got very cold. Striped bass chased peanut bunker south. Lots of mergansers flew to the ocean at dusk.

Went surf fishing at Manasquan this evening on a cloudy, cold day with little wind on the new moon high tide. Got the first parking spot near the jetty. A surfer with a wood surf board was leaving when I arrived. Saw birds and fish working bait offshore in two spots when I arrived. After I started fishing, two intruders started fishing to my right, then two more to my left. I didn’t see them catch anything. I caught, tagged and released a 19” striped bass on my 61th cast of the day at 5 PM on a black Bomber Long A-16. Then I lost a fish later. Big spearing were in the inlet at night. Only had two hits with 110 casts in more than two hours. Caught a striped bass in the surf at night each of the past 3 nights.
