Party Boat Striper Fishing

Maybe a dumb question, but if you enter a Striper pool, is it the biggest dead fish that wins the pool? Do released fish count in the pool? if you catch a 44lb fish and have to release it because of NJ regs, does that count towards the pool? Asking for a friend

I'd guess it's the heaviest "LEGAL" fish but I could be wrong.

I was on a Black Sea Bass trip (years ago), an Angler caught a nice 20# COD
I thought should have won POOL. Pool was for sea bass, so COD didn't count
POOLS' can get weird at times

These rules may vary by boat but I'd assume it's the largest legal fish kept
