All,

If you receive a letter about a mandatory commercial permit inspection but hold a Angling permit. This is the CG response to my email. A safety inspection, as always is recommended but not required as the letter states.

In response to your e-mail which outlines your situation you are not required to have a Mandatory CFVS Dockside Exam as you do not intend to sell any of your catch.

These letters were sent out to everyone operating in the First Coast Guard District area of responsibility who hold NOAA fishery permits but currently do not have a CFVS Dockside Exam.

Due to the numerous fishing related casualties over the last 5 years we are encouraging those who do plan to sell any of their catch to ensure that they follow the current federal regulations for the safety of themselves and their crews.

Again Thank You for your inquiry and if there are any further questions please let me know.

v/r,

Paul Bassick

Thank you for this information, I have been on the phone all day trying to figure out what is going on! I have already had Dry Dock & Topside inspection in April......isn't that part of the Safety inspection?

Is it OK to disregard this notice or will we be getting Non-compliance letters in the mail along with a Fine? Sorry, I just don't trust the powers that be.

Thanks,
Capt.Ron
