I really appreciate all the support this board has given me. I love reading about how much better NJ fishing is today than it was when I was a kid in the 70s and early 80s. But still, Mystic Island is where I became addicted to salt water fishing, and your posts always make me smile.
In New England, I’ve watched the haddock fishery almost disappear to becoming positively spectacular. I went out recently and I’ve never seen it like that.
Fish on almost every drop, which Is a new thing in these waters.
Split the day into two vids. Thanks everyone.

er umm... Fishing is NOT better than it was in the 70's 80's.. not sure who posted that information... The only exception to that would be Stripers.. in the 70's and 80's there wasn't much in the way of Striper fishing compared to today. however, the fishing for everything else kind of made up for the lack of stripers, and we didn't really miss them...

Watched burlap sacks rip from the railing being overloaded with ling and whiting on magic hour trips on the Norma K III in the 70's. Waded shin deep in Boston Mackerel that filled the decks of the party boats in the 70's, haven't seen anything like that ever again. The Georges Banks off Massachusetts have a story all of their own.
If one was reading the reports from a couple of the Belmar boats, one might think fishing has never been better...

Back then you could keep everything so the sacks filled up. Now we release probably 50% therefore you do not see as much. Granted the commercial catches have dwindled the biomass of many species other than Stripers.

Plus, along with bag limits, there's probably 50% or less of any targeted specie to catch!!! How many 1/2 nite or 3/4 nite bluefish boats or spring run mackerel boats are still going? Sea bass excluded but just wait for next year's limits...
