The majority of the posted pictures of striped bass seem to indicate they are post spawn fish. Or, am I missing something? There certainly is a big body of stripers and the question seems to be about their spawning behavior and the location and timing of that spawn.
The Raritan River seems to be a logical choice for the spawning grounds. Or, did these fish drop out of the Hudson and are staging for another move? Maybe they are latecomers staging to move up the Hudson to spawn? We know that stripers are caught well-upstream past Bound Brook. Are some of these fish headed that way or, are they spawned out? Or, since they are being caught in the “Sink” and Shrewsbury, is there enough freshwater coming out of those two to encourage spawning there? So many questions!
Those of you who have been out can tell better. The bay and rivers have been full of bunkers for a month. That bait is certainly a big attraction. The only way to know more about what is going on is for some agency ( Perhaps Rutgers Hint,Hint) to do a young of the year survey.
