Just one quick look at these 2 NJ fish summary cards should open some eyes to how bad our fisheries managers are doing .
What’s going to happen in the next 10

I see that , pictures here loaded full size seem to be super tiny .
It’s the marine summary card from 2007 , and card from 2021 .
Shows how every fishery has been cut in half .

Pretty sure they closed shortfin mako harvesting in 2022 and 2023, back in Nov 2021. Pretty wild. I'd have to believe longlining kills waaaaay more makos than recreational fishing.

Jeremy you're correct on both counts. Long overdue. Three times when I owned a boat I came across a long liner in the Chicken / Triple Wrecks area and the number of sharks taken was insane. Most seemed to be summer sharks even worse which were probably harvested for their fins.

Thanks Dan. Quite depressing. When you look down those 07 numbers it's crazy what we could keep compared to now. I don't know what the answers are but I'm sick of it. Not ashamed to say I'll keep what I feel is fair based upon the day. Not spending all that money to NOT take home fish. I feel for the for hire sectors.

The younger people on this site never got to experience the great fishing we once had. We rebuild the stocks but we still get punished. I retired in Florida but frequent NJ when i can. My grandchildren are there. In Florida we get the short end of the stick also. Red Snapper Atlantic side where i live is open for one day! They are so thick you could walk on them. They still harvest them commercially ???We have terrible limits on Sea Bass also. It is about politics and it is nation wide!

I remember them days. It really wasn't that long a go. At this point we as close to ZERO fish as possible! The rec fishing industry needs to lobby asap before there will be no more rec fishing!
