Hello all! Headed to Montgomery Bay Area of Jamaica (Tryall Club). Looking for any advice about charters, what’s running? Are there options like inshore versus offshore etc. any experiences you’d share are welcome. Going first week of April. Thanks!

Never been there. However I've never read anything positive about charter boats down there. I belong to 4 salt water fishing sites.

I’ve fished many of the Caribbean islands including Jamaica with very little success. Jamaica is especially overfished. I’d say save your money and enjoy many of the other great things there.

If you bring you own gear try this.

Last time i was in Negril I negotiated with a skiff who sells snorkel trips.

It was like a shark river rental skiff. The owner was happy to pick me up at sunrise.

For $25 i'd toss out a Kroc spoon and troll up spanish macs- lizard fish and even a nice king one day.

I used him almost every morning for a few hours. We even went bottom fishing beside a reef for endless "grunts"

Back before the wife even woke up

I did a 4 hour charter by myself in Jamaica while the wife laid on the beach, first week of April 2019. Posted on here asking as well, and got the same negative feedback about the fishing there. Was hesitant but said to hell with it and booked anyway figuring Id have a few red stripes out on beautiful Caribbean water worst case scenario.

Glad I did!

Caught a few good sized Mahi and a blue marlin ~160 lbs. Went with Island Dog in Ocho Rios, had an absolute blast with the captain and deckhand, tons of laughs. Those guys made the trip fun as hell (the Red Stripes didnt hurt either).

So I say, go for it. Its fishing, you never know.
