Raritan River Stripers?

Hi all,

I'm at Rutgers for the next few years, and am wondering if it's worth trying for stripers in the spring or fall from the bank of the Raritan River. I've done a lot on the Hudson with blood worms, would that same style work here? I've heard mixed reports on trying for them around New Brunswick or if I'd need to go further towards the mouth of the river.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

The fish are there although access can be tough. Boyd Park area holds fish, take your time and throw proven effective striped bass lures, watch the tides and be on the lookout for bait fish. The striped bass seem to move up the river during times of high water so don't be afraid to fish the muddy waters.
Keep a log book and use the bar on the page "search" and type in Raritan river to read past posts.

Most Raritan river photos and reports seem to end up in the Fresh water section here. Don't forget about the trout and walleye in the river also ( and whatever else lurks) :)

Last year was a site to see at the Sayreville boat ramp. I was on the boat coming back from a good day of striper fishing and when I got to the ramp, there had to be with no exaggerating, 30 to 40 people fishing along the banks and the docks, There was keeper stripers for everyone. I had to ask to hold back the casting so I could get the boat in without being hit by peoples lines. This fall, last Wednesday, while ramping the boat, maybe a handful of people fishing off the dock and a guy reeled in a 30" bass. If you catch the tide right, they're in the river. I'm heading out in the boat tomorrow. If I see action on the dock, I'll repost. (mostly casting shad lures) Good luck! Mike M

A lot of schoolies all winter long too... Cast some rattle traps around the bridges in the New Brunswick area.
