Ran out to the reach which was a parking lot and acres of bunker. Put the spoons out away from the fleet and it was game on with fish to 44". Decided to put the spoon rods away and went to the shads and poppers and had non stop action all afternoon. Saw a lot of guys livelining but was happy with bent rods the rest of the afternoon. Staying outside the fleet pays off most days in my opinion!!! Great day

From my experience the fleet and heavy boat traffic just drives them down. These fish are not in just one spot as you already know. Glad you caught! Tight lines!

Fished on a NJ Fishing sponsoring party boat yesterday. Fished the bay from Keansburg to the west to The Knoll to the east. 9 out of 10 bunker pods that we fished held bass. @40 bass caught from slots to an estimated #50. Vast majority of the fish were caught on 9” swim shads (of various colors), a few on tubed and untuned AVA jigs. I happened to catch all mine on a 4 ounce castable Mojo. Myself and at least one other person tried flutter spoons but neither of us had a bite (although we did snag a few bunker). I also threw a Lil Doc spook plug (another threw a popper) and again neither of us had a bite.
I was very tempted to chunk up on the snagged bunker and just drift a head/chunk along the bottom as I’m very confident this would have yielded good results.
