To say I suck is an understatement. Not even worthy of a report but I’ll put it out there.

10/14….. hit the last of the incoming at sundown looking for top water action west then east of Earle. Nada. Shot up to to the VZ at sundown to drag some snakes and again zip in the dark.

10/15…. Out at first light and found nothing on the bunker pods inside so moved off to drop some bait for bottom dwellers. Current was ripping til noon. Made a few drops out east and it was nothing but dink cbass. Greyhounds took over as the current slacked. Moved south and inshore later in the day only to find the same short action.

Was on anchor at 11 am and had albies blow up all around us. Couldn’t get a single hookup no matter what we threw. Frustrating as ****.

Whales busting on bunker on the ride home. 72 degree water inside 68-69 outside and pretty clean.

Thanks for the honest report. It makes me feel a little better. I was out on Thursday drifting eels in the harbor and only found the eels were bitten in half. Eagerly Waiting for the Striper fall run…

What if you used an umbrella net and got fresh spearing before heading out ?

What if you trolled spoons and feathers blindly 20 miles out ?

This is why you keep a logbook.

Duffman,

80 degree days and tropical storms pushing in warmer water isn't helping jump start the fall migration.

Years ago, I took my boat sharking to the Glory Hole with my wife, father-in-law and son. In total I saw four free jumping makos that day, saw two makos on the way back in around the Mud Hole hanging from the bow cleat of boats fishing. About a quarter of a mile away, I saw what I thought was another mako free jumping. Ran over, throttled back and saw the most remarkable site I've ever seen on the water. A giant tuna that I'd estimate at 800 lb broke the surface a half dozen times chasing big bluefish. The blue fin was no more than 50 ft from the boat and at one point came completely out of the water with about six big blue fish jumping clear out as well trying not to be dinner. Again the most remarkable thing I've ever seen on the water.

Point is I didn't get a hit that day, I sucked. At the same time, that trip was one of the most memorable and exciting trips I've ever had in my life. You sucked being out on the water on a beautiful night eeling for bass without luck. At the same time I was painting around the house. I'd rather suck doing something I have a passion for than not suck doing something I hate. It's not always about catching my friend, sounds like you had a pretty good trip!

You are 100% correct. I just looked thru my logbook.

Once this wind dies out I’m gonna go cast some Nordic eels for weakfish in the back bay, then head out to the Cartwright grounds using bingle bananas for some blues and then live line some whiting for giant bluefin in the mud hole.

Boats staying tied to the dock today cuz of the hard blow. Think I’m gonna head down to the Long Branch fishing pier for some ling tonight.

Sea Bassing was slow for us on Friday as well. A ton of fish but all 12 inches.
