Vacationing in Maine. Caught several of these. Atlantic Mackerel? Are these things any good to eat? If so, any tips on preparation? Thanks!!

Atlantic "tinker" mackerel. Great bait. Decent table fair if bled and iced immediately then consumed within 24 hrs. My godfather used to snatch the ones I caught off his marina in Montauk, bled, gutted, olive oil sea salt and peppers and right onto the grill... i'm not an oily fish fan unless smoked, but his old school Sicilian ass couldnt get enough!

They are not bad at all if kept cold and eaten very fresh.. They taste like the sea, kind of fishy and oily but in a good way... Broil or bake, do not fry!
I kind of like them , but too many and you might grow weary unless you really like stronger tasting fish..

Thanks guys. I’m gonna give it a shot if I get a chance in the next couple days.

If you drop a lure under those tinker macks, you may get some harbor pollack. Similar length but more robust and scrappy. I’ve gotten them in the general Boothbay region.
